It was more accessible than Super Shinobi, and the last stages weren't that tight in the jumps. And that labyrinth in the very last stage would drive you insane in the first playthroughs. I honestly love both of them.

Revenge of Shinobi is much better imo but i can understand why people put Shinobi III over it. I think its great but there's something about revenge that makes me keep going back for more each time and Yuzo Koshiro's work on Genesis is amazing.

Obvious answer: Super Shinobi 2 has a lot more style and polish and is chock-full of memorable set-pieces. SS1 looks less refined, and is a little stiffer in controls (I also dislike its reliance on pixel-perfect platforming late into the game). Both games are excellent though, as is MD Shadow Dancer.

Shin Shinobi Den, or ShinobiX or Shinobi Legions or whatever- now THAT is a truly miserable game. Ugly graphics, awful, convoluted controls, and terrible level design. Lousy in every way outside of the funny cutscenes.

I played one or two levels of it and apart from "lol digitized sprites" it seemed ok. The GBA game is far, far worse. Cyber Shinobi seems bad too but apparently somebody on here likes it.

All 3 Genesis, both GG and original arcade game are 10/10. Also, Ninja Cop is an honorary Shinobi game and gets 10/10 too.

Because Shinobi III gets hard just towards the end, so more people finished it.
I finished III before Revenge as well, it was easier and faster.
They are both amazing games, albeit different.
I can't really say which one I prefer.
