It's pretty impressive if you consider they ported a major chunk of Sonic 3's soundtrack to Master System tier hardware and made it sound as good as the originals, just to show how much CPU horsepower had a say in making good chiptune. At least, that's my explaination of why SMS/GG games didn't have sick tunes like that.
