Is it true that Amiga CD32 oversold Sega CD in Europe?

>> No.3166159

>>3165896

In the UK it did.

>> No.3166193

>>3165896
You would be correct. Sega CD sold 0 units in Europe. It's called the Mega CD there.

>> No.3166201

Don't know about Europe as a whole, but it did in the UK, where the Amiga brand name was still golden.

I know a guy here in Australia that has 2 but can't get his hands on another because they're so rare

Collectors are cancer.

Wouldn't surprise me, the Sega CD wasn't the hottest seller.

>>3166193
It's the same thing, Sperg McGee

>>3166202
Are there any good titles on the CD32?

>> No.3166637

>>3166208
No we aren't! We are just collectors.

>> No.3166663

Fuck every time I think about CD32 I think about missing out on that damaged NOS case getting closed out on eBay summer of 13. I was even really interested in then at the time but I was low on money so I wasn't even looking at then on eBay and missed an opportunity to get a $50 one with zero hours.

>> No.3166708

>>3165896
I doubt this. The Mega CD wasn't a big seller but it wasn't an outright failure, while the Amiga CD32 to me just seems rather niche.

You're either underage or America, the Amiga was as big, if not bigger than the Mega Drive in the UK.

The CD32 was pitted directly against the Mega Drive/CD by Commodore in a very agressive advertising campaign all over television, newspapers and even outside Sega's HQ in London!

So are there any cool games for the CD32?
Any FPS besides Gloom?

>> No.3169271

>>3169215
It can play most Amiga games not just cd32 games so it's a pretty sweet system

This thing even came over to NZ; for a machine that had such a short life span in a time when other brands would take months or even years to arrive, that's saying something. I'm not sure what, but it's something.

I even saw one with the mpeg decoder pack once.

I've never even seen an Amiga in my life, much less played any of the games, I'm not sure they were any popular here in Sweden, but the idea of a nice and (for the time) powerful system being backwards compatible, is really tickling my balls in a way that enjoy. It's like the Sega Genesis and the Powerbase Converter (even if that was kind of an overpriced passthrough).

Do you have any particular action, rpg or sim titles that you think are really great? I kinda wanna see what kind of graphics it can do, I'm a huge whore for intricate spriting.

Is the controller actually comfortable though? It looks pretty awkward.

This is Super Stardust for the CD32:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0FDH-Wfcic

Go to 14:15 for the first warp tunnel sequence. As far as I know it's otherwise the same as the A1200 version except it has CD music.

These are the warp sequences of the first Stardust for the weaker A500:

Meant 14:45.

Also, to be clear, those warp sequences don't use FMV.

Does anyone own an NTSC version of this console?

I've been looking for one.

>> No.3173504

There are. The Amiga was an amazing platform which got killed by Commodore's incompetence. That, and iD Software never ported Doom to it because of its archtecture. An official AGA Doom port, released not long after the PC version, could have saved the platform IMO.

>> No.3173509

>>3173504
Also, Commodore completely bungled the Amiga's North American marketing. It's a shame, because I'm Canadian and I'd love to own one some day. Apparently the platform had some popularity here in the late 80s, and we even got an NTSC version of the CD32, but literally no one I've talked to remembers using one back in the day.

It's possible. Commodore was big in the UK and Germany, even after Commodore went out of business. I can recall seeing Amiga CD32 game reviews in plenty of multi system magazines.
