Is there any real reason to update to a newer version of Retroarch?

I'm still on a version from a couple years ago with the old UI (better IMO than the new one), and I just update the cores every now and then.

Does the newer version have benefits over the older one?

Just see how far you can shove it up your ass. That's my advice.

Are you upset?

That depends. What platform are you running RetroArch on?

Windows, but I don't see why it matters.

I only play psx, snes, and nes games, so I have my own shell script for my Linux machine that launches the individual emulators really fast, but that is a pain to set up when on Windows so I stick with retroarch. The cores seem decent enough.

Can anyone actually answer my question above?

Then yes. I'm upset. Get a real front end or don't use a front end at all.

Thanks for the reply, but I don't care nearly enough about UI to set up a "real" front-end. If it launches the game without crashing, then it's good enough for me.

I just wanted to know what things they have covered in recent years and see if it would be worth upgrading. Other than that, I could not care any less about the interface.

Just curious, why is the front-end such a big issue for you? Do you spend more time staring at the front-end than actually playing games?

I don't know about Windows, but the latest version on Android has a vastly improved UI over the previous one.

anyone?

The only PC emulation machine I have a front end on is in an arcade cabinet. Other than that I use this crazy interface called "Windows" that lets me put "shortcuts" on my "desktop" and when I want to just click on a game and have it run it even has these futuristic things called "file associations"

I'll take a look at the newer one for windows, then.

>>3162356
To each his own, I guess.

I don't like cluttering my desktop with shortcuts, and file associations are implemented really poorly on Windows. If I decide to change the folder layout of the emulator, I have to change the uri in each game shortcut. Linux can do this automatically, but not Windows, unless you are well versed in powershell autism.

Having one shortcut to one program that will then automatically manage file paths and launch emulators with no hassle is a much better solution than trying to do it yourself with Windows's half-baked "features", IMO.
