At least in my house and with my friends it did, Goldeneye in particular. Me and my brother to this day have a deep affection towards both Goemon titles. We bought the first one literally because the cover looked good (that's how we purchased most titles back then). Those, along with Mario 64, both both Zeldas, Banjo, Star fox, Turok (which scared the shit out of me as a kid), Paper Mario and Smash Bros pretty ruled in my school for years. I remember some kids talking about Playstation games like Tomb Raider but those were a minority. But then again I was 10 when that game came out, not exactly the marked of Tomb Raider or Playstation for that matter.

It makes no sense speaking of worst or best generation. Each had it's own problems and developments when compared with the previous ones. Comparing consoles and games on the same generation I think it's possible, though a lot of people will compare consoles and games aimed at different markets or age demographic, which will make you look stupid, but then again, most internet discussions are.

Yeah, it sucked. It was the Return of the Jedi of Nintendo consoles.
Which makes the Gamecube the Phantom Menace cause it was even worse somehow.
Objectively speaking, Playstation and Playstation 2 won their respective console races. Playstation 2 still sells new units to this day, shit is like the Master System in Brazil.
And the Playstation winning ruled because it slapped Nintendo's bullshit in the face and they got rewarded for it, same with Sega.
The only reason for Sega's downfall despite multiple extreme flops was that they had to compete with the Playstation 2, the most successful home console to date.
And Nintendo? Well they have more money than God and continue to make weird retarded niche products for their aging fanbase and their alienated children who just want to play a cawadooty.
Whats my point?
N64 was the beginning of the end because they couldn't keep getting away with monopolizing the gaming market with their bullshit nintendo brand carts and their bullshit nintendo microchips nobody wants to program for. So fuck em. That shit doesn't fly when their is a cheaper alternative that works just as well.
