I can't tell if you're pretending to be dumb to get responses or honestly never heard of it, but you just described Phantasy Star to a tee. It's a much better game than either DQ1 or FF1 as well.

In the first couple of hours you're flying space ships to other planets. I think it will suit you well.

It's not fully sci-fi but in SaGa 2 you can play with a party of all robots if you want. 1 and 3 also have a lot of sci fi elements.

Larange point is an entirely sci fi themed jrpg. Also theres MOTHER, it has a "modern" setting but also has robot, ufos, and aliens.

Did you take me for a hostile Sega fan? Because I wouldn't consider myself either of those things. It seemed a little hard to believe someone coming here had never even heard of Phantasy Star, so I mentioned it seeming odd. But I still gave him the benefit of the doubt.

STED: Iseki Wakusei no Yabou for the NES is exactly what you're looking for. I won't say it's a GOOD game, but it can be pleasurable with a guide on hand and some patience.

I don't know if you're an idiot or not, but here's something you might not know: you start out a conversation with an epithet, people will take it to be hostile, like how you're reacting right now to how I just did it to you.

Try Dragon Warrior.

But I didn't react with any hostility either time. I asked him honestly if he thought I was a sega fanboy. And I certainly didn't think I was genuinely being hostile.

You have to admit that starting a thread on here asking if anyone knows about an 8 bit RPG with a sci-fi setting, sounds a little baity. It's pretty hard to be here more than a day and not know about Phantasy Star. But also like I said, I gave him the benefit of the doubt and recommended what I thought he was looking for.

Some days half the threads that get posted here are just to generate fights and shitposting, you can't blame me too much for being suspicious at first.

Then stop pre-emptively shitposting yourself.

What bait? Bait for what? You aren't making any fucking sense here.

"CRTS are for fags!" "Dreamcast isn't retro!" That's bait. "Does anyone know any 8bit DQ clones in space?" is obviously a serious question meant to actually generate conversations, not generate a meanless string of (You)s.

Jesus Christ, get off 4chan and talk to some actual human beings for a while, please.

Ultima 1 and 2 have a crazy mix of elements before the series settled for medieval fantasy.

Might and Magic (1 and 2 being the 8 bit entries). They appear fantasy on the surface but it's actually colony ships with robots popping up sooner or later.

Yeah Metal Walker is a really fun little game. There's also Power Quest, which is more modern day but you fight with robots. I wouldn't say it's great though.

Do make sure to treat yourself to Phantasy Star if you haven't yet though. That game is fantastic.
