One of the most mecha games I ever played.
Its not only mecha but its the best kind of stereotypical Japan, 80's realistic, Mecha.
I know the game been released in 95 but it feels like something straight from 80's.
I dont think I ever played anything like this before or after this game.

Since english is not my native I cant really say how good the translation is.
Personally I thought translation was very good but native speaker might find errors or nonsensical stuff I missed.

I havent played FM1st for DS so cant tell you much here, I know it has extra content so that might be a factor if you wanna play some more after main story line.
You probably will want to return after a while because the game is actually good and has unique mood to it.
Apart from that I prefer fullscreen, pad support and everything else emulator has to offer.

Currently playing target earth and cant say it has much going for it gameplay wise.
Enemies flooding the screen without mercy, it feels like at bullet hell type of game minus responsive controls allowing me to maneuver between bullets.

FM3 is fucking ridiculous when it comes to banter and sexism/SJW'ism.
I mean on the city guide online there are literal safe spaces for women and Ryogo constantly keep making remarks and hitting on everything that have set of tits, ship captain remarks "must be hard work for a woman" and Denis keep being racist.
Love this game just for how ridiculous this all is.

That said, FM2 with translation patch deserves its place here.
Everything about it is better, tactical aspect, story, gameplay, battle maps, the game is awesome as fuck, shame they never released it in US or EU, we can play it with fan translation but for whole series it was a wasted opportunity to gain more influence here.
Then FM4 didnt even got released in EU and FM5, the best in series didnt even got released outside of JP.

I mean fuck this shit angers me to no end, I just wanna pirate their every game till the end of time for this bullshit.

Thanks, anon. I read up on the patch and game. Looks like the FM5 team couldn't patch the game script of the FMV events, because memory restrtictions? Pity.

FM2 kept some of the things I liked about FM1, but left some I didn't like. I don't care about the repair costs, and bringing in large teams in a large map with long loading times is a pain in the ass. I quite enjoy the "dumbed down" mechanics of FM3, if only the battles aren't too damned long.

Still kinda hate that the skills are tied to mech parts, and weapon proficiency is split into more types instead of just Long/Short/Melee. Guess that's necessary since FM3's grenade launchers and flame throwers are very much OP once you're trained it up along with accuracy upgrades.

Pity or not, it is still perfectly playable and those FMV dont play that often, when FMV starts playing just pause emulation go and read the script (Included in patch) then unpause and watch it.
In addition translators team have youtube channel with all FMV's from FM2/FM5 with subs.
So when FMV starts playing, just pause emulator, go to yt watch FMV with subs then go back and continue playing.

It CAN be tough, but it's far from the toughest in the series. Most of it is, if not having the right parts, then taking advantage of getting your opponents stuck in places.

The last mission will freak you out if you get sandwiched(you face the penultimate Raven and his clone).

Seriously, it's a great series. There are some entries you can skip when you get to non-retro platforms, but give them a try at least.
