It's honestly not a bad addon, there's lots of terrible FMV games but there's also quite a lot of good games. If you want one, consider that it had no copy protection, so you can play all the pirated games you want.

The best game they could throw behind that, though, would have been the Sega CD port of Final Fight. It's the best console version, admittedly, but because of the bizarre way the CD interacts with the main Genesis memory, it was poorly optimized and suffered slowdown in a couple levels.

Not quite because the Mega CD doesn't actually change the VDP. It's still the same old one with all of the same sprite line limitations, and 64 color limit.

The Neo Geo's power wasn't because of its CPU. It was because its VDP was incredibly strong.

I found the FMV stuff sorta endearing on some level honestly? Like night trap is a bad game but it's also sort of a campy fun time.

>> No.3088736

I had one growing up. Back in 93.. It impressed me at the time honestly and I'll always have a soft spot for the system despite their really being a lack of good games. Could anyone recommend me some games that utilize its hardware capabilities the best?

I got a kick out of the FMV stuff when I was a kid, but that was back way before internet video or even the idea of being able to play video on your home console was amazing back then. It has dated pretty poorly.

Despite that though I have a lot of nostalgia for that system. I stupidly was loyal to sega and also got a 32x, which was novel for a brief time but i don't care for it anymore. It has only like 2 or 3 good games on it and they are multiplats like Doom.

model 2 will output stereo through the AV cables but model 1 will only output mono through those cables.

The solution is to use a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male cable as a bridge from the model 1 headphone port to the sega CD's audio-in jack (dunno what it's actually labeled but it's the only 3.5mm jack on the thing).

Then you use normal red/white RCA cables for the audio from the CD.

This is for using a model 1 MD with a model 2 CD, for the record. I dunno if the model 1/model 1 setup is different.
