It had ONE good exclusive, and that's good enough for me.

I talk endlessly about how much I love the Dreamcast, but it's basically just because I have wicked nostalgia for it. The summer I bought it with my own saved up cash, I remember Sonic Adventure blowing my mind, and Skies of Arcadia was probably the most fun I ever had with an RPG. Those two rose-tinted scenarios are all I need to make the Dreamcast one of my favorite systems, and while I admit it, I am not ashamed of it. I feel like the Dreamcast had a lot more potential, and it was cut terribly short.

The sad fact is that it's true. The Sega Dreamcast was a tremendous step in the right direction, and it had a wonderful launch line-up and showed a lot of promise. Unfortunately, it was undone by Sega's previous missteps. Consumers who felt burned by the Saturn and the 32X turned their back on Sega's next effort, regardless of what it offered, and because of the success of the PS1, the PS2 had cadre of massively loyal Sonyfans who bought it without question. Plus there was the added appeal of the PS2 being a DVD player. The cards were stacked against the Dreamcast in almost every way possible, except for the fact that it was actually a great system.

The reason the Dreamcast resonates so strongly with passionate gamers is because it represents one of the first times in gaming history that marketing trumped actual hardware quality.

Modern games are horrible and outdated. They are glitchy, poorly designed, and often way too difficult, with the difficulty not being a kind that is surmountable based on skill level, reflexes, or thinking, but rather random luck or rote memorization of hidden factors.
No one who can afford better should play them anymore.

The only consoles I own are the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3. You fags are getting ready to scream "NOT RETRO!". I calmly say if I went back to the past and showed your 10 year old self those consoles and their games you would put down your NES, Sega Genesis, Atari 2600 or whatever other console you owned at the time and pick up that Dualshock controller and play some Dark Souls, Motorstorm, GTA 4, or *gasp* even Call Of Duty.

SNES pales in comparison to the Genesis.

Why in the holy mother of ass would you want a CRT television set.

Nintendo's only great console was the NES. It all went downhill afterwards.

Mario 64 was such a ridiculous effort. They just went all-out. Mario has so much mobility and so many moves, the game doesn't even require half of them. True, but to be fair, Ocarina of Time was not a platformer, and the focus was elsewhere. Link's moveset was limited, and the context-sensitive button and auto-jumping allowed them to focus on the array of items and puzzles the game offered, which was definitely where they were better off focusing. I think Ocarina would have lost its appeal if half of every dungeon was bogged down with you trying to figure out what kind of jump or stunt you had to pull to reach a new area. Then the game would have been far too much like Mario 64.

I suppose my real issue is that 3D platforming debuted at its peak, and only went downhill.

Yeah, not saying Ocarina of Time is a bad game for using context sensitive controls. Just that it pioneered them, and they killed elaborate movement schemes.

Though given the way things were going at the time, that's probably fine. The lesson the rest of the industry seemed to learn from Mario 64 was "Milk your 3D setpiece levels with lots of abilities and lots of collectables" in the Banjo Kazooey style. If they kept going further down that path it would have sucked.

Congratulations. This is the dumbest thing I've read all day. I guess we should also get rid of the phrases first-world and third-world because all countries have more money than some retarded McDonald's employee on 4chan will ever make. You're so fucking retarded it makes me angry that people like you are even alive. Do you even fucking listen to yourself before you open your stupid fucking mouth?

he wanted to go back to making his own stuff, and couldn't while working on grumps stuff.

No reason he can't go back as a guest star, except that people would remember how much better he was dynamic-wise than a lot of the current cast, so it' be a bittersweet reunion that reminds people how much worse things are right now, possibly making some fans realize they've been along for the ride long after they were actually enjoying themselves and go off to search for greener pastures.

Iron Giant in FF2 is worse, as it can appear ANYWHERE in the upper floors of Pandaemonium. If you want to kill it for rare loot; Good Luck trying as it will run whenever it gets the chance to.

Iron Giant is really a pushover, if only for the fact that you've likely grinded a ton before you encounter it. You can vanquish it with a couple of well-placed attacks.

FF1's grinding is much more restrictive since you have level up tables. Your warriors can be only as powerful as their classes allow, and the WarMech's Nuclear attack is devastating at any level.
