Last time I played RCT was when I was a kid, so I dug out my RCT2 disks and installed OpenRCT, so apologies for my ignorance - I don't remember the handymen being this shitty, they seem to just run back and forth with a 3 block radius (not actually cleaning anything), and the size of the patrol areas seem to get them stuck in queue lines. This seems to be a reported issue on the Github - does this happen for anyone else, and do specific versions (ie stable vs develop) work better in this way? Same goes for multiplayer, seemed to only get ~10 minute bursts with my mates before we'd desync (but not disconnect) with 'connection closed' - anyone else have experience with this?

K it looks like it's a bug with the debug tools (ironically enough) when you edit the object list during a scenario. So I assume you must have done so when you were making that scenario.

Also, to whoever made Hurricane Hollow, I fixed the guest spawn point and added it to the vpack. For future reference, you can edit the spawn point during a scenario by enabling sandbox mode in the cheats.

Mel's World at completion. This was the first time I have played this scenario since the 2004-ish and jesus fucking christ I hate it.

>Pathing system is horrible, guests spend too much time walking around up and down stairs and never go on shit
>the fucking terrain is disgusting mountain tool spam, but the park is too small to make a terrain hugging coaster
>The drop tower queue and exit confuses guests
>bland, uninteresting terrain and scenery selection
>park entrance directly leads into some long as fuck 1 tile wide stairs which guests crowd up and don't leave (I actually had to use the sandbox tools to move the entrance back a tile so I could put in 3-wide stairs with no-entrance signs to stop people going down one staircase and back up the one next to it like in crazy castle)
And on top of all that, if I remember right, Quiver (the bobsled) can crash and it has a really shitty queue time and pisses guests off, so I had to put in proper block brakes and separate entry/exit stations, allowing 3 trains on at a time. Even then, the queue was always full simply because people were waiting so long.

Despite this looking not like shit, I think I might stick with Parkitect. As someone who doesn't give two shits at how "realistic" a park looks, I'm just too engrossed in the fantasy aspect of Roller Coaster Tycoon and its relative accessibility that Planet Coaster seems really intimidating to pick up and play.

Now, they could reel me back in if the scenario objectives and rides are reminiscent to that of RCT1, where there is a steady progression to the complexity of roller coasters and the overall difficulty. They haven't given any information on this front.
If it's just another building simulator I may as well just go play No Limits, is the point I'm trying to make here.

I made a scenario to build a megapark in for myself yesterday. I liked how the terrain turned out even though it's completely basic with no real effort put into it.

The objective of getting your park rating up to 700 is hard as fuck for the first few months, by the way. I thought it was too hard at first but I managed it and got started on a park.

I don't know if this qualifies for the contest or not, but I thought I may as well see. Here's the download link:

Most money + keep rating over 700 parks tend to be a bit tough at first, but generally, once you get rolling, they aren't too hard.

I'm working on Vomit Lake, and its not really hard, so much as it is annoying to micromanage all the god damn handymen because they love getting stuck walking in loops in the queues. With unlimited time, its just a slow grind getting the park big enough to fit enough guests in.

>> No.3085195

I've seen microparks about half of the size of the park boundries I have now fit 2.2k people in there. I think it most definitely might be possible to fit 4k in there without expanding. I'll probably try it in a bit.

I doubt it. I love RCT2 for the game it is, not because there's no modern coaster games. I expect /vr/ct might coexist with a tycoon thread on /vg/, at least for a while depending on interest. And as long as RCT1/2 dominate this general other games is generally fine, we've never been purged for RCT3.

Technically RCT2 shouldn't be allowed on /vr/, but obviously it is. With the new wave of coaster games coming out, this is probably something a mod would have to clarify. RCT3 posts aren't purged here, so would Parkitect and Planet Coaster posts result in bans?

The community we have here is excellent, just slow since there's not much to react to and we've been playing off the same stuff for a long while (not to mention multiplayer OpenRCT is still very unstable).

The community /vg/ hosts tends to be absolute garbage on average.

With the traction PC is getting, whether or not we move, I'm pretty sure someone will start a general for it over on vg either way once it launches. Honestly I think we'd be better off keeping /vr/ct here while we have Planet Coaster/Coaster building general on /vg/ to encompass PC, RCT, Parkitect, NoLimits, and any others, It'll be comparable to /cbg/ which has a fairly higher quality than the other generals but during dead periods the thread might 404 from lack of content so it'd be nice having a dedicated Rct1/2 general here to fall back on. I have an example of what I meant with fake coral though. It looks like colours don't show underwater at all, so I'd probably just use white scenery so it at least appears bright. I have to admit that I kinda agree. The real names in RCT2 show that Chris intended the peeps to have different genders and now that there's not the same limitations as back in the day I'd not complain if OpenRCT2 chose to expand on that. Of course I'd, for example, rather have Immelmann Loops for Dive Machines out of the box but since OpenRCT2 is developed the way it is, if anyone feel like adding diversity I don't see why not. Of course new peep graphics would have to live up to the traditional looks.

I see the peeps basically like emoticons, they're made to be as generic as possible. The only hint at their gender or race is their names and the names weren't even a core part of the original game. In vanilla RCT I believe the guests only had their number to identify them. Chris added the names in one of the expansions to RCT but they were off by default I believe.

Unique names were not part of the original game no, but I've always seen RCT2 as the more definitive version of the game and if I recall correctly names are on by default in 2 so I'd say Chris were moving towards more non-generic peeps. That's because you already have the custom objects in your files. Some custom objects simply don't export properly with the scenario when you save it (several Amazing Earl objects are affected by this bug), so when you send the file to people who don't currently have those objects, the scenario won't load because they weren't saved with the scenario in the first place.

A good way to test if your scenarios work is to delete every custom object from your ObjData folder, then load your scenario and see what files fail to export. RCT2 and its expansions have a total of 2,122 stock object files. It's a good idea to keep a backup of a stock ObjData folder.

I tried some foliage/tree stuff out, not happy with the volcano at all. I will probably keep the grass, but thin it out a little and make it more patchy. As for the trees, I'll probably make them bunched like that, but I'll be using zero clearance to make proper groundcover (you can't access any cheats or debug tools when in the scenario editor, have to edit it as a game save then turn that back into a scenario)

not sure if I want to keep this area. I needed something flat and low to the ground to balance out all the rough terrain on this side of the main island, but I'm not sure if these sandbanks really fit in properly. I might put a second entrance here though, it would certainly make the map more challenging (you'd only own the main island and park entrance islands, the water and mini island can be purchased for construction rights, and the larger islands can be bought outright.)

visuals seem to have been scaled back to keep framerate up. shadows and lighting were all fucked up.

coaster builder now has piece by piece construction but they didn't demonstrate that you can build compact coasters with it - he just built a giant mess. he did pull up a preset coaster for a second and it was the length of the entire starting plot so i'm going to assume their train physics are still fubar.

in terms of rides/coasters/shops there seemed to be a fair bit of content.

management was in

scenarios were in

foliage was hideous

peeps were hideous and behaved similarly to rct 1,2,3 in that there are no groups and they just walk around aimlessly most of the time.

he was asked to turn up the graphics at one point, he quit to the menu, realised everything was already at max and just went back to the game.

rides/scenery objects have 'circles of influence' (have x amount of decorations around rides to satisfy peep needs i'm guessing).

If not, try changing it to a color that's ethnically acceptable. It might not be working because it's over privileged.

Few specific themes instead of mix and match because they wanted continuity/consistency scoring for theming an area and couldnt be fucked to develop an actual scoring algorithm. Everything is prefab - no modular construction, premade station platforms. Roller coaster physics are shit - lolflyoffthetracks if the ride is mildly uncomfortable, with that threshold set to baby tier making the only functional coasters massive with wide turns.

It fails to capture ANY of what made rct1/2 good.

See, I'm completely scared of heights too. I cannot even look out a window when I'm in a really tall building, and god-forbid looking over the edge when I'm on top of one, but being scared of heights on a coaster makes no sense to me.
You are strapped down tighter on that ride than you are in a medieval torture chamber. There is literally no way you can fall out of the car.
I know phobias are irrational, and I have my share of crippling phobias, but come on, you're probably more safe on basically any given coaster than you are just walking around the park near other people.

I've had 7 trips to Disneyland, went to Disney World once, and have most likely spent about a full 20 days in that park over the course of that trip, and I have never seen anyone vomit after getting off a ride, or vomit on the ground near a ride. But that could just be a thing of Disneyland, maybe they don't have nauseating rides. I wouldn't know because I don't get motion sickness.

Depends on what you want. There are only a few official remakes, and they have completely different available rides from the originals. I have remade all of them, and the available rides and research order are exactly the same as the originals if that's what you're looking for. Plus, I know the official remake of Ivory Towers doesn't even have the Tree Topper coaster due to the removal of steep drops in RCT2. I at least tried to remake it.
