The first time I encountered him, I tried using X instead of Zero. X had no good special weapons, so with the blaster he was impossible. FUN, but impossible. I still want to try beating him with X just his buster.

Funny thing being, when I found a way to kill the Grand Dragon's up Gizamaluke's grotto safely at the start of Disc2, I grinded so all my characters were lvl50 at that point.

One single hit, and the fight ended, having depleted all her HP, but the game tells me the battle ends because "she" is too strong....

No memory card so I got there all in one go.
Had to restart, got there again, but power leveled at the trees just before the boss, got to level 42 then raped his ass.

Learned about the Phoenix Down years after that...
I never beat the game. Got to the part where you get that red head dude, then I had to change disc...

I assumed considering how powerful she was that you were supposed to lose to her. The fact that she occasionally gets four attacks in a row (which might include two of those attacks which hit all your party members) made her incredibly difficult. I only beat her because I'd grinded quite a bit beforehand, and even then she was tough as nails. Every other boss before her was mildly difficult at best.

I had shit gear and low level when I fought him for the first time. Since I was locked in the area and mobs didn't respawn, I couldn't grind in an attempt to overlevel him so I just started a new game.

Then I discovered what Charm did and that I could steal some cool armors from mobs, and the fight suddenly became piss easy.

Once you were in the castle, you were trapped until you beat her and many first time players only used 1 save slot.

His hands respawn and it's not the heal that gave me trouble anyway but his 'novas' and the group damage they deal. I wasn't prepared at all the first time I fought him and didn't have Lolminaire unlocked yet so I just got buttfucked.

After restarting I got my hands on those armor pieces that reduce/absorb damage from a specific element and equipped one on each of the members of my team which allowed me to sustain through GG's damage and made the fight super easy.

I'd like to say they didn't even hurt me, but I used Ayla's Charm and they countered with the iron ball thing. Other than that, I just kept using Lightning2 and Fire2 and having Ayla restore my MP with Ethers, so they kept switching their copy skill back and forth. New Game + is a breeze because you can come through with 3 Red Mails and absorb their attacks when Lucca Flares them.

I'm pretty sure that's drakkhen they're talking about. Reason being is that these battles can occur as soon as you start the game and they are powerful enemies you can only even really attack with a bow weapon or magic that comes fairly late. You have to try and run and they can kill a few party memebers by the time you get away and a starting party can just have them swoop down randomly when walking in the direction of that constellation. With a member down its hard to know early on where to go to get a character revived and it can be a death sentence. It's a game that really doesn't hold your hand and can feel quite mysterious and gratifying. Heck if you are playing any version not the snes one you don't even get a map and have to rely on the constellation s and sun and landmarks for guidance.
