I was convinced 2 was the best for the longest time, but that was just because I had never played SonicCD.

I will say Sonic 1 has an amazing first Zone, but it quickly goes downhill fast (lol) starting in the Marble whatever Zone.

I like 1 a lot because that was the first one I ever played, because it feels more like an arcade than a console platformer, its balance between fast levels and slower, more traditional ones and whatnot. I like CD because it's closer to 1 than 2/3, and I like S3&K because it's fucking huge and that's what 2 should have been like.

To be fair I don't really like any straight platformers. But in Sonic you were always teased with the idea of running around super fast, but the level design frequently seemed to get in the way of it. But then I've only played the first Sonic and probably never even made it half way through. 9 times in 10 I was bored and wanting to play something else before Green Hill Zone was even done.

I enjoyed Spinball a fair bit though.

This is actually thoughtful and I appreciate that. Sonic 1 is my favorite for nostalgia reasons. It was the only game we could afford for a long time. I think 2 was the pinnacle of the game in terms of actual level design overall, but 3&K has the best tunes.

true. s3&k are my favorite but the levels can be a little droning with the actual platforming. sonic 2 did that right with not so much in your face gimmick shit. sonic 2 was what i started with when the model 2 came out so i appreciated the bigger levels and gimmicks more as a child. but now as adult it's kind of a pain in the dick but the nostalgia of "this is so cool" still hasn't worn off. to me it feels like a major culmination of the series and sonic 1 is just so bare to me but damn good. sonic cd is just an abomination to me.

You're playing it wrong then. You can run around superfast through the entire level once you memorize the layout, meanwhile just go slower and enjoy the ride.

Yeah, I think that's what this guy >>3050335 was getting at as well. I did get to a point where I could go through the first few levels pretty fast, but then I missed most of the rings and felt like I just jumped over huge chunks of the level and wasn't any more fun.

Meh, I get my tastes are weird, I never liked Mario either but it always seemed odd to me that of all the amazing games the Genesis had somehow Sonic still gets as much praise as it does.

Meh, it's the same as Mario. It's the "starter pack" of other great shit. Sonic is great even in the platformer world for what it is, but just because something gets a lot of praise (because it was a pack-in and therefore got the most exposure) doesn't mean it's the best.

On the Genesis, just to scratch the surface, you've also got Dynamite Headdy, Toejam & Earl: Panic on Funkotron, Socket, Rocket Knight Adventures, etc. which are all damn good. That's just what's off the top of my head right now.

Sonic just got more exposure, man.

Sonic Adventure 1+2 are still my favourites though nothing can stop me loving these

2 isn't bad but i could never get myself to like it over the years.
Sonic 1 is the most nostalgic one since i remember playing that when i played a genesis for the first time so I have alot love for that and CD as well.

Most people will say either 2 or 3&K are, and they're pretty amazing games too, but to me 1 is still the best. Glad I'm not the only one.
