Because the system (and the CD counterpart) have an over-reliance on digital comics, dating sims, mahjong and idol games.

I'm always disappointed in how the system does not really have a lot of platformers or action games, especially compared to the absolute wealth of those types of games on the Mega Drive and Super Famicom (and Famicom).

I mean, plenty of shootemups, but there are plenty of those that are worth skipping (pic half-related).

PCE also has a fuckload of excellent RPGs, but only a few are translated. Only SNES gets any big translation attention.

Both Legend of Xanadu I and II are far in the process though.

PCE has an ok amount of platformers. Some of them are honestly A tier stuff, like Bonk 2, Rondo, Parasol Stars, Liquid Kids, SonSon II, and New Adventure Island. But there's plenty of trash like JJ and Jeff, and the Valis series.

Definitely lacking in run and gun games, I can't argue with that. Shockman is ok though and Genji Tsushin Agedama is cool.

Honestly, SNES is pretty bad for shooters apart from anything by Konami, and the Genesis is solid but doesn't quite match up. All three consoles have their strengths and weaknesses.

I'm dead serious. I've played every single PC-E game in existence outside of RPGs, sims, gambling, shogi, etc games.

Not including ports, the best games are:

-Bonk 1--- Best game in the series because it has juggle mechanics and best pacing. the other games are slow as molasses
-Air Zonk-- Great freaking game. Beautiful.
-Parasol Stars- Beautiful game. A+
-Soldier Blade- Great.
-Gunhed- Pretty good. I hate the horizontal scrolling though.
-Gekisha Boy- Gimmicky game but it's loads of fun and requires skill. Also the most racist game in history.
-JJ & Jeff-- really good mario/wboy hybrid. Fun but hard as nails.
-Magical Chase-- Bretty gud.

CD games.
-Wings of Thunder
-Rondo of Blood

That's it. Yes. That is it. Spriggan is mediocre. Gate of Thunder is overrated. Valis 1 remake is boring and easy. but WoT and RoB are A+++ games.

LA1 is great. I used to dislike it because you can only hit 1 enemy at a time even if enemies are overlapping. But it makes the combat a bit more strategic. Good game that should've been in my initial list.

LA2 is ALMOST great. keep in mind, i like this game a lot. I can 1-life the entire game in my sleep and i love love love love love love love the newagey background music. But everytime i play the game i get pissed off because of the shitty jump startup. ALMOST a great game. one of my guilty pleasures

hell nah nigga. Hellllll naahhh. This game is garbage. It's good-looking garbage though. the ghameplay is atrocious. the most efficient way of playing is to just run, grab and throw. and on bosses use the secret fire attack. Extremely reptitive and boring game that is all style and no substance.

They're "Good" but not "one of the best". Something like Wings of Thunder is one of the best 16 bit original shmups ever made. But most of the others aren't.

Keep in mind, I'm just as strict with my best-of lists when it comes to other systems. i only consider like 10-20 games per system to be really special.

It's probably the best beat-'em-up on the PCE, considering the only other alternative is Crest of Wolf (which has more variety, but is 1P only). I kinda like it mostly for the anime cut-scenes, but I wish they had balance out the enemy variety instead of forcing you to fight the same army of Williams and Rowper clones throughout the entire game. The NES version felt a lot less repetitive because of this, despite having more or less the same enemy variety.
