If there's anything the people of /vr/ hate more than modern games, it's modern games made in a retro style. You're barking up the wrong tree I'm afraid.

Why is that? If you like retro games like i do, why wouldn't you want to build your own? Just because is made in 2016 it cant be acceptable for retro-fans? Even if it follow the exact same parameters than a 99 earlier game? That sounds foolish to me.

Only if you make it for a retro platform like the Apple II.

I actually am like you in that I like all kinds of games and many modern indie ones. But this place is pretty volatile towards them in general. A homebrew or indie games forum is probably a better place to ask.

I am not much of a internet expert, you can see that since i dont even know how to make a retro game, i only know 4chan, of course i could go look into google but i thought this was a good place to do so.

the problem you face with saying you want to make a retro style game is that there's a lot of ways to take that, and one of the ways that many people take it is "I suck at art so I'm gonna make really bad pixel art and claim that it's 'retro style' graphics"

alternatively I myself frown on games whose only real purpose is to blatantly copy an old game and not do anything new to add onto it. If you're gonna do a 'spiritual successor' then at least have the mind to change something.

If I for example, made a game for the NES in 6502 assembly that works on a real NES, it be OK to talk about on /vr/?

Off to a good start, OP. Programmers are a diamond dozen, but the much sought-after "idea guy" is a rare site.

Well retro means style by it's definition. So anything made in the style of or reminiscent of older games is retro.

Yes. It plays on a console released before 2000.

It's not weird. It's based on what console it runs on.

I love the retro fantasy rpg style, i don't like the graphics of the modern 'retro' games like the rpg's you find for mobile these days. Too colorful and visually exhausting, I like the visual of chrono trigger for instance.

>>3036613
As to add something new, yeah i have four ideas that if properly inserted on the game would make it a fantastic fantasy experience. The reason i posted this on /vr is mainly because here i can find people who actually understand about retro-based games.

>>3036618
The alternative would be making an engine remake for a retro game since remakes tend to get a pass as well.

just like every shitty pixelated indie game to come out in the past 5 years.
