The cuck meme is a mix of /tv/ memes that were pushing the whole cuckold meme at the time, and it coincided with the release of the AVGN movie, which had a scene with the girl on the movie (which was supposedly AVGN's love interest, although not really) kissing a black kid that was AVGN's friend, in front of AVGN, suddenly, without any explanation. It was admittedly weird and out of place, then again the black kid felt out of place to begin with.
Prior to that, AVGN's wife made a blog entry on cinemassacre, talking about how cinemassacre was a "caucasian sausage fest" and how it needed more diversity, kind of SJW stuff.

On top of all that, AVGN also blogged when his daughter was born, saying she had some complications at birth.

I've long since been done with AVGN, but James is still a cool guy to listen to. I still love hearing him talking about childhood memories/experiences with games or anything to do with film making. It's really too bad. I can tell by certain things that I've observed in his videos (seems awkward doing gaming videos, prob only reluctantly does James & Mike mondays, trying to do a lot of different projects that are more film making centric rather than retro gaming etc.) that you are spot on with your assessment there.

He should just enjoy what he has and focus what his greatest strength is, which is making random videos about movies, games or anything really. Well that's what I see as his biggest problem. He SHOULD lose his fanbase and start completely from scratch as a film guy proper and he should have done it long ago. Like 8 years ago.

Now he's too dependent on this shit because no movie company is gonna take him, he wasted 12 years of his life on this shit when he should have been getting a foot hold in the industry doing shit jobs but making connections with designers, writers, lighting staff whatever.

Did he even go to film school? He could of gotten a set job a long time ago if he did even he's just fucking setting up a crafts service table.

The term "paying your dues" exists for a reason. It sucks but the connections you form will really help get to know shit that can help you get into the real movie business.

Okay, maybe I worded that wrong. First of all, I shaved because it's more practical, and second, it is more hygienic. Yes I do shower every day, but during the day your hair might recollect all kind of dirt that's on the air, or your own sweat. If you have no hair in your head, there will be less dirt around your head during the time you're not showering.
Also, hair is dead cells anyway. It looks pretty on women but I realized I don't need it.

I've only gotten benefits from shaving, nothing negative. Sometimes I let it grow a little bit but then I feel the need to shave it off, it just feels good and I look good with a shaved head, I know it doesn't look good in everyone though, skull shape and face structure/jawline is important.

I'd like to say a few things, since I just marathoned some of his older biographical videos. Leaving this post here just to say it all.
It's like he had a dream when he was young, about movies and everything, but it kind of shattered thanks to the internet and how he's forced himself to do the AVGN videos...
He could've made connections in the film industry during his life, but couldn't, so he sort of ended up with an "okay" B-Movie in his curriculum and forced hate memes everywhere.
I genuinely feel sorry for him, especially when he said that without his movies he's nothing. They're obviously his life, but he spent his 20s to early 30s in the wrong way.

I appreciate the man's AVGN videos, and his older ones definitely seemed like he was more into it since most of the games he reviewed he had actual connections with, but now he's looking at just obscure games that would obviously be of subpar quality, and it seems a lot more forced than before in an attempt to just meet status quo. Personally I think he should embrace the fact he was one of the first youtubers to explode on the internet and paved the way for other people to make videos about retro games, childhood connections to games and other little things we remember as kids.

I lost all respect for James after the movie. The movie was awful.

For years he's been making the AVGN episodes, saying he does it because it's easy to do but he's really a filmmaker at heart. AVGN was nothing more than a joke that got out of hand. But twelve years later he still hasn't progressed beyond yelling "fuckfarts" at his TV and he made one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I've seen his other films and they suck too. James always uses the "it's supposed to be like a B-movie!" excuse when talking about his own films but they're not B-movies, they're just shit. It's also very clear in the Mike and James Play videos that James doesn't know anything about video games.
I used to hate Mike but right now he seems like a pretty cool guy, and so do Ryan and Bootsy, because they actually kinda care about video games and enjoy playing them. Fuck James.

A lot of his solutions to practical effects like the rocket taking off and the car crashing where pretty fun and well done, definitely "B".

The issue was the fucking script was one of the dumbest fucking things ever. He could have made something else with that money, but he had to tie it to AVGN.

Since AVGN can't carry a feature length film, you now have to shoehorn in a shitload of side characters, and instead of making it something relatable, like having to fight off the characters in the sketches of his previous reviews like Joker and Bugs Bunny (most likely due to copyright), we instead get generic sidekick, generic love interest, and generic villian with generic villain sidekick.

I think James had it in him to make something decent. Even if it is in a "so bad it's good" kind of way. The issue was that AVGN was just "so bad it's bad"

One thing I was disappointed by with the movie is that, if I remember correctly, he said in a log once it would be "Half like a review, Half like a movie". I've always been the kind of person who hates sketches during reviews and never liked most of AVGN's sketch characters or comedy, so seeing that the movie was 90% that and a review shoved in during the credits made me really mad.

I still like "Out of character" James a lot. I like it when James shows his true colors and passion, like during most movie reviews and some of the older games he grew up with. Monster Madness alone I think is some of his best stuff.

I also hope he takes a break of some sort. I can only stand non AVGN James and Bootsy, I really can't stand Mike at all. Which is too bad, I'd watch him draw or talk about comics, but fuck his lack of wit when he's sitting with someone else.

Yeah, that became especially apparent in videos where James talked about childhood or college. Mike was the guy to introduce him to most things video game wise, and it was pretty obviously never his passion. The way James always tries to add plots and stories and such to his videos was always testament to that. The thing about James is that when he does something he's passionate about he's really good at it, which is why his monster movie videos and the like are so enjoyable. However, if you look at him when he does a game outside of his comfort zone, he doesn't discuss it like he would an NES game. He does a formulaic review instead, such as in his Sub Zero Mythologies video, and it's pretty apparent he doesn't care about it in the same way.

Man, Mike Matei is so damn based. He's awesome at games and adds a whole he'll of a lot to AVGN and Cinemassacre in general. He is funny, smart, and good at MANY different things. People give him crap for the Minecraft video or the Elmo one, but they're just jealous haters who need to grow up, move on, and accept that Mike is one of the funniest people on the Internet (and pretty good looking, to boot).

He is good at drawing, especially the episode with Mario Paint. It's not easy to draw well on there and he whipped those out pretty fast.

People can say what they want but he IS attractive since he got his new current hairstyle. Go back and watch the early J&MM. His hair then was more middle school tier and not very good, but he looks more adult and dresses a lot nicer now. I think maybe he read the criticism online and listened because he's definitely a lot better groomed and more comfortable in front of the camera.

Have you seen the Mario Paint drawings posted on the thread here on /vr/. Mike is kindergarten-level compared to those.
His drawings for AVGN episodes are god fucking awful, he has no sense of color, and is very bad at drawing simple lines, all his drawings looks like stuff traced by someone with parkinson.

And he is as attractive as an average joe. His face is seriously ugy and his ears stand out too much, like a monkey.

Bootsy's advice for the game was so good that I was able to complete it quite quickly, and his ability to convey information put him on a greater level than James.
