yup. Ebay is 100% against repros. Its one of the reasons why you almost never see the actual word "reproduction" on listings. Using key words like that automatically flags them for possible removal That's why you see them do stuff like say "R E P R O D U C T I O N" instead to avoid filters. And they're typically up for very short periods of time, because the longer they're accessible on the market, the more likely it is that someone sees it and takes it down.

The best part is the audacity. They really think that their random (seriously, the DS version? why?) shitty paint job is worth extra money. Next thing you know they will push the idea that some kid's name written on the cart should boost the value.

>Selling repros as legit is bad and shouldn't be done
>A repro/bootleg isn't inherently worthless, but should be priced accordingly

Selling repros is fine, just be transparent about it. Like I said, a bootleg isn't inherently worthless, I own a few Neo-Geo boots.

If I buy a "legit" game and it turns out to be a boot, I'm gonna be mad and do something about it. If I know it's a boot, and its a decent price then I may move on it.

I have mixed feelings about shit like "Reproduction label" tagged on repro labels. Mostly because if I have a legit game and want a replacement label I don't want a reproduction label with garbage all over it, I want it to be as original and authentic as possible,

>>3016274
No one uses good or expensive games for donors. You're almost always using shit like "Hunt for Red October" to make a Little Samson, or some generic sports game. The -only- case I know of using a relatively good game is for making Mr. Gimmick Repros with Batman: Return of the Joker, and afaik the boards you can buy now with the eproms may actually be able to make Mr. Gimmick's without donors, but I actually haven't looked into it yet.

This is how I feel about it. Repros/bootlegs are fine as long as they aren't trying to pass as the real deal. Getting as close as possible to an authentic copy is fine as long as it's clearly labeled "reproduction" somewhere on the cart.
What makes me upset is when people try to sell repros for more money just because it's a repro of a rare game. Little Samson bootlegs on eBay always seem to go for 50 or more solely because it's a bootleg of little Samson, when you could just go on aliexpress and get one for 6 bucks. Feels pretty good to get into playing SNES sooner than later, I fucking hate resellers who only get old vidya just to sell it immediately afterwards. Hell, I'd probably shove one of my cartridges up my ass just so no one will ever want to buy it.

Also got into Japanese Saturn game collecting recently, so far the prices aren't too outrageous (Unless it's Radiant Silvergun) and most of what I have came with the manual, holy grail so far is complete copy of Puyo Puyo Sun with manual and a bunch of other paper goodies.

When I see all those ads, I think that I could sell them for a "good" price, and offer them a second life where somebody would really appreciate them. The prices in this thread are really high, and I can't understand how somebody could be willing to pay as much for a game. Oh, I see what kind of guy you are. You want all games to be priced at an arbitrary value that you dictate. And you think anyone who pays above what you percieve as being a sucker.
Well sorry to say buds but the market clearly shows that games are selling for a lot. So either there's a lot of suckers or you're wrong about what these games are worth.
Save up a little bit of money and work your way up if you want games. Be honest with yourself too. You have to already be slightly autistic if you feel the need to collect games. Embrace it, and start putting down the dosh. You'll only feel better about getting what you want.
Or just buy loose carts. I could have bought 100 carts with the amount I've spent on my cib stuff.

>> No.3018258

>So either there's a lot of suckers
Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. It's no secret that there are tons of drones who trip over themselves to spend ridiculous prices. Especially among nintendo fans, both concerning old games and new ones.

Don't act coy with me. I very well know that the markets dictate value. Yes, a game is worth what people are willing to pay for it, but not looking at it any further than that is disingenuous. And 1000 is indeed way overpriced for earthbound, even as it is today. It normally sells CIB for just over half that.

And I'll note that I have no desire for CIB stuff or earthbound in particular. But the idea of "hurr durr I'm a massive retard who's just going to spend ridiculous amounts of money and you shouldn't care because it doesn't affect you" is wrong. Precisely BECAUSE the prices people are willing to pay are what dictate value.

I'm considering doing it, eBay's been getting on my nerves. Bought an auction of SNES+games and the 2 controllers and mouse for Mario Paint don't work. Messaged the guy and he tells me to just mail it all back for me and he'll refund me when he gets it.

I'm probably just gonna neg him an move on. The controllers are beyond fucked and he goes "lol worked when I tested them, just return it"

I really think it is a kind of psychological "I got one over on ya, mwahaha" thing with some of these resellers/investors that supersedes their desire to make money. Still trying to shave off just a little bit off of a cheap item, even with the risk of missing out on the great deal entirely, all so they come out a tiny bit ahead by having the other guy concede something. Like, it is somehow worth more to them if the guy on the other end has to cave and provide a marginally better deal than he was before, even if the amount shaved off is literally ~1% the value of the item.

Picture of the board should be enough. A non-nintendo branded PCB, eproms (as opposed to Nintendo's masked roms, literally just a little window on the rom chips) or any kind of wiring on the PCB is basically an immediate sign of being an illegal copy.

Do not contact the seller, they'll most likely just tell you to return it.

Go straight to the resolution center. Escalate. It is against the ToS.

Do it and post here. I'm too much of a nice guy to fuck someone over, but theres a little samson repro auction up that I am considering trying to win from a dude with 13 feedback.

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/replica-counterfeit.html

"We don't allow replicas, counterfeit items, or unauthorized copies to be listed on eBay. Unauthorized copies may include things that are bootlegged, illegally duplicated, or pirated. These kinds of things may infringe on someone's copyright or trademark."

Burning a rom is technically duplicating someone else' copyrighted material

"Backup or archival copies of software
Bootleg recordings from concerts or other live shows (see our bootleg recordings policy for more info)
Counterfeits, fakes, or replicas of brand name items (for example, a purse bearing the Chanel name or logo that wasn't made by Chanel)
Counterfeit electronics (like cell phones) or software
Counterfeit replacement parts or consumables that weren't made by the manufacturer that the items are labeled with
Digital copy only discs or codes (originally sold as part of a Blu-ray or DVD combo package)
Fake autographs
Media (such as CDs, DVDs, flash drives or any other recordable media) containing scanned pages from a book, magazine, manual, or other copyrighted materials that you didn't create
Unauthorized or pirated copies of things like:
Movies or videos
Audio books and ebooks
Music CDs, MP3s, MP4s
Photos
Software
TV programs (including CDs or DVDs containing shows that were taped from television)
Video games"

So unless you have the "Nintendo Seal of Approval" for making repros these are technically Illegal. Illegal in the sense that Ebay will shut down these transactions. Not illegal in taht you're not going to have the FBI kicking down your door because it's definitely small potatoes.

Don't do it with a seller you're interested in though. You will definitely get blocked and burn that bridge.

Am I wrong to think prices aren't that high?

Yeah you're going to get sodomized if you want a CIB Mega Man game, but the average random non-meme game that most Smash Bros/Ready Player One fans don't care about isn't so bad. Even $30-$40 is not a crazy amount of money in the grand scheme, and you can pick up a lot of decent 7/10 loose carts for ~$10 in a reseller scum brick and mortar without even shopping around.

And this all only applies if you must have real hardware anyway, any kid in the 80s or 90s would've gladly handed over their hardware for the kind of emulation you have at your fingertips, or a flashcart. It's a wonderful time to be alive!

The only things that actually piss me off are actual shady stuff preying on uninformed buyers. Actually people selling eg guitar hero controllers for $40 make me mad even though I'd never buy it, that's garbage dump tier and I'd be too ashamed to accept that much money if I were the one selling.

I would look at the person offering the 101 as a bad person trying to interrupt the process of business. Im making a deal with a person not you. your gimmie gimmie!! prices are the thing making them rise anon. Not the seller/buyer. YOU ARE.

because after I sell mine for 100
>THERE'S OTHER FUCKING COPIES
which can also be sold for 100

Makes sense if all deals that determined going prices were done one on one, but theyre auction based, so its always going to go to whomever wants it most and has the money to back it up.

Wow, spot on. I've found a couple decent deals at game over but overall they overprice everything. Pink Gorilla and Amazing Heroes tend to have better prices on common stuff, although Amazing Heroes overprices on the real expensive stuff.

Yea, I like Pink Gorilla, just sucks having to drive into downtown Bellevue as that's the closest one. Amazing Heroes for whatever reason always seemed overpriced to me, but maybe I came in on bad days. The one guy I run into a lot who works at Game Over is pretty nice; tall, glasses, short brown hair I believe.

The best deals I've gotten at amazing heroes have been the games that have been sitting on their shelves for ages and not re-priced as their value has gone up. I got a loose disc legend of oasis there for 8 bucks, and sword of the berzerk complete for 18. They have definitely shifted with the times though, I used to find 3 or 4 dollar NES games there regularly, now 6 is as cheap as they go. Pinky G used to be cheaper too but they've pretty much just changed prices with the market.

I'm not seeing the problem with selling reproductions if you tell people it IS A REPRODUCTION

I like having repro of games never released here.

The problem is the most reliable place to sell them is Ebay, and you absolutely can get fucked over that way.

This may come as a shocker to you because you probably haven't beaten half the games you own (without having to use cheats like the Mega Man 1 pause trick, that is) but some people buy games to play them, not so they can post photos of their little collection online for attention.

Just checked CL right now and saw some good ones:

SNES with an RF adapter, two controls and SMW (no AC adapter) - $150

SNES mini with 1 3rd party controller, AV cables and an AC adapter - $180

and there's about 2 or 3 other SNES console listings in that price range. I sincerely hope that none of these sell.

>> No.3034456

Paying extra for collector's items complete in box is dumb because it's just going to take up space and your money won't be used to support the creators in any way.

But those are the same reasons why buying used games is dumb in the first place. Just get a flash cart.

The laser voltage trick will only get you a few months of use, though. My old old Dreamcast had the same problem and the fix only worked for a like half a year before it started not reading again.
