Entire game is like those sadistic mario bros hacks that used to be a thing on youtube.

I love Croc, but it isn't a cute game by any standard. It's downright terrifying in places.

The sequels, that might actually be considered "cute", are trash.

I love croc. I know I might get hate for this, but I'd love for a Steam re-release with achievements. I have the original games but it'd just be cool to have an added replay excuse.

>>2896359

Also, this. The Croc games aren't all that cute really.

I've been playing it on an emulator. Such a fun little shooter.

It's my goal to one day own a CiB copy. I should probably take the plunge sooner rather than later, because it reaches Stadium Events levels of madness...

Most classic N64 games (Kirby 64, Smash Bros, a Bug's Life, Luigis mansion, etc) are really fun, and as a female gamer I've always preferred them to the games for the PSX which seem more alienating. xD

Well, it hasn't reached Epic tier yet. It's not Stadium Events or Air Raid. It's not even Red Sea Crossing, although it could be one day. The last copy sold went for $4000. I could settle for a loose cart, but even that could become prohibitively expensive.

It is nothing like Croc 2, for starters. The original game was completely unspoken, with gestures and body language used as the medium for speaking. It was 99% gameplay with cutscenes only as an intro, and as very brief scenes of how Baron Dante turned regular creatures into bosses. No weird grunts and gibberish. Just very much a classic silent protagonist game, where you choose what to make of it all, instead of being spoon-fed unimportant dialogue.

The controls and movement can be a pain in the ass, and it's by no means a programming gem, but overall I think it's up there with Crash and Spyro.

>>2899551
Being thrown into dark rooms with little visibility, where you can fall off ledges and die, while having to figure out new game mechanics that create time constraints.

The later areas in the game and very dark and gritty, and put you up against obstacles that would be a challenge with better controls and movement. Throw in some enemies while you climb a staircase of falling platforms, and you've got a pretty scary situation on your hands.

>> No.2900382

>>2896274
you can warp past half the levels and there is a stage select

the basic gameplay isn't even comparable

it's a nice little platformer though, and all the Namco PCE and Genesis character cameos in the bonus levels are cool

I thought arpeggios were the only thing Jap musicians knew how to do?

>> No.2904820

>>2904779
European chiptune style fast arpeggios, not arpeggio as in the traditional musical technique.

The only examples I know are:
Magical Chase (PC Engine)
Devilish (Genesis)
Final Fantasy 3 (Famicom)
Batman: The Animated Series (Gameboy)
Tiny Toon Adventure 2 (Gameboy)
Doki Doki Sasete (Gameboy Color)

Borderline cases:
Wrecking Crew (NES) - it's only 32th notes, so it's not really fast enough
Castlevania 3 (NES) - has a gap between repetitions, I think it's trying to replicate the sound of strumming a stringed instrument, and only accidentally sounds a bit like a chipstyle arpeggio

Post more Japanese arpeggios if you know of them.

More or less. Alberto Gonzalez music is definitely among the best and rather unpopular, but it's not exactly underapprediacted. Many use his music to give examples for advance chiptune techniques, as seen in that video. Or in this one.

I've always loved the musics in that game. It's one of those NES platformers I've played a hundred times as a kid. I had no idea the composer was famous.

The theme for Helvetia was one of my fav, super atmospheric

Too slow, like Wrecking Crew. A human could play it on real instruments so I don't think it counts. True chipstyle arpeggios are too fast to humans to play.
