Can we have a thread about games that are in first person, but aren't necessarily shooters? Pic related is pretty awesome and one of my favorite DC games. Shame that not many people played it as it has some unique gameplay features and branching paths that lead to 7 different endings.

Only thing I know about this game is the amazing as always art by Kazuma Kaneko. I really think some of his ballsiest and crazier designs are in this one. The game seemed okay, the first person sword gimmick was kinda neat.

Only other game like this, as in first person with a sword, that I know is probably some samura/ninja-y arcade game.

I'd also put Jumping Flash forward because while there is some shooting, just the movement and environments set it apart from your general "FPS"es as most know them.

Try the King's Field and Shadow Tower series.
Also Baroque on the Saturn.

What are the differences to the ps2 version?

The PS2 version is entirely third person whereas the Dreamcast one is entirely first person.

Is there a translation for Baroque? I absolutely loved the Wii remake.

I just got that shit and a Dreamcast OP, it's fucking tight. The gameplay is actually more complex than it looks on the surface and the graphics and sound design are second to none. I love how well Kaneko's art translates to 3D. And the voice acting is endearingly cheesy. Probably a must-own for any Dreamcast owner.

Any experience or opinions on what plays better? I think I remember a test in a magazine hundreds of years ago that said maken on dc was clunky and enemies spawned behind you or something

Not him, but the PS2 version is horrible. It feels an looks cheaper. It also has worse music.

That's too bad, half the fun of the Wii version for me was the obtuse as fuck dialogue.

I love games where you possess people. Messiah is probably my favorite. Maken X was ok, the controls and level design really brought it down.
