One of the 5th gens best games. I honestly didn't find it all that great the first time but I replayed it a few years later and now it's one of my all time favorites. Try it again but go for "A" grades on all stages. It takes some practice but the game really shines once you git gud. Also if you didn't use the 3d controller you didn't play the game the way you were meant to.

,,, no, it really doesn't. The only thing you need to do is
1. fly above your start post to re-do each level for more points, as long as your points allow.
2. kill bosses in less than 10 seconds for a 2x multiplier.

The second part may take moderate amounts of skill, but only until you figure out the correct pattern.

Your not wrong but once your able to fly thru an entire stage(s) not losing your link count + using acrobatics it becomes very fun and very fluid.

>>2863614
Yeah first couple times playing I had no idea it even had a 7th level. Would finish a level as fast as I could, get a shit grade, beat the boss, and shrug. Wasn't until I started trying for a good score(which forces you 2 git gud) did the game change for the better.

That's how I felt too. The game is extremely weird, vague and esoteric, and I mean all of it: the story, the music, the graphics, the gameplay itself. I tried, but I really couldn't get into it. I still don't know what the fuck I played when I played this.

It's not a racing game though. Nights is a more abstract idea. It's a weirdo little thing where you fly around, trying to build up your score before the time runs out, and that's it. It's very simplistic and pretty fucking vague. It's just not very enjoyable to some people, and I would think that it's fans would be able to understand that.
After all, something like a racing game requires you to actually get there first to win, while Nights has no such factor in it. You just have to meet the score requirements.

Videogames in general are very objective driven. Even in games where all you're out to do is "save the world", there's still a current goal to keep you focused. Nights just sort of drops you into the game world and expects that flying around and building up a score is gonna keep your attention for more than an afternoon. And for most of us, it's just not all that.

I'll admit that it was a very fun and interesting afternoon for me when I first played this, but I never played it again, because I never felt the need to. I never literally sat around thinking "man! I gotta play nights again!" While I HAVE done that with other games.

The sad thing (to me) is that the gameplay is actually pretty fun, but the game itself is boring and unfocused. If they'd used that gameplay in something more objective driven (not talking about adding combat for combat's sake either), then they could have had a real winner on their hands. But nope. Just build up your score and run laps...

>I identified this thread just fine

You see, that's where our definitions of "shitposting" differ. For me, shitposting is not posting on topic, which is exactly what you're doing. Thus, shit-posting. If the thread is about a retro game, regardless of how baited you perceive a thread to be, it's still on topic. You know, because this is a place to discuss retro games.

Your definition appears to be any bait whatsoever, which isn't the case (as per my explanation above). People are smart enough to point out bait and in turn avoid it (generally), but you seem to be forgetting that this is still a place to discuss the game, even if you don't like it. Any conversation is good conversation on 4chan. So to summarize, fuck off with your backseat moderating. You're annoying as fuck and will derail the thread.

>I don't.

So talk about the game for crying out loud. Stop shitposting.

>Likewise. Let's purge this fucker.

That doesn't even make sense. I think you're just mad because you're falsely assuming that OP was trying to be inflammatory. Which he's not; this is just a thread about a game that just so happens to have polarizing opinions, which is fantastic for 4chan threads. I'm going to stop replying to you, so feel free to say whatever you want at me.

>>2864576
I felt that it would have been interesting to have some form of event you could trigger to take an alternate path, like finding an item as NiGHTS or the kids. I felt that would have expanded replayability a decent bit.

This is more true that most people care to think about, modelling a face let alone an entire body is pretty time consuming. Main reason why I believe certain companies should stop making AAA titles and focus on easy to make experimental titles.

They tried making it more appealing to the casual public ruining what made the original NiGHTS great(being a score attack game). Not to mention they did what almost never works for once silent protagonists, which is have all the characters talk. The game was pretty to look at and some of the bosses were alright but that was about it. It was a day one purchase for me and a day 2 return. Very disappointing.

>>2864595
I felt that it would have been interesting to have some form of event you could trigger to take an alternate path, like finding an item as NiGHTS or the kids. I felt that would have expanded replayability a decent bit.
I like your thinking. Different paths would of been great! Wish they would of done more with the kids also. Other than checking out the level on foot there is zero incentive to ever go out and walk around. Finding hidden items or artifacts to help NiGHTS that only the kids could pick up sounds like fun.

>>2864609
I've seen some speedruns that use the kids to get the links quicker, though I can agree that moving around as the kids seems completely unnecessary. Adding hidden collectables that would unlock stages or even just stuff like concept art would have been great, I would really enjoy exploring the worlds on foot while avoiding the alarm clock. The clock would start to get really annoying though, so I suppose the alarm itself would have to change (perhaps normal ticking, with the alarm going off when it catches you? Could work)

To get an A rank you're best off trying to get the 20 chips you need as fast as possible and getting to the capture. After that though, don't rush home. Do laps around the stage to get as many additional points as you can, until the timer has run out. You're gonna have to fly over the home base (I forget its actual name at the moment) so you don't trigger the next course or lap or section or whatever it's called. When you get to the boss though, it's back to trying to beat them as fast as possible so you can get a higher multiplier.
