Why do you pretend to hate Nintendo?

Wrong board? /vr/, as a rule, doesn't hate Nintendo (unless it's a rather rare retro console war thread). If /vr/ hated Nintendo it would have barely anything to talk about.

Nintendo hate is a /v/ meme spouted by children who literally don't know that Nintendo once equaled video games. Though that makes sense since /v/ hates video games.

Neo-Nintendo. Classic Nintendo was the bee's knees.

It's not wrong, though. Predating the Playstation, Nintendo dominated the markets, and vast amounts of the games discussed regularly on /vr/ were exclusive to Nintendo systems.

Because I hate how they never take risks with their characters. The NSMB series is just the same thing over and over when they could be putting Mario in new interesting settings to spice things up.

>> No.2834669

I don't. But I hate the fans. Kinda like when you grow a dislike for an athlete just because he has an awful fanbase, ie Kobe Bryant

lol, wasting time and enrergy on hating stuff.
Just ignore it and get on with life anons

I like Nintendo games. But I also think that they are bipolar cunts. They shift back and forth between identifying as punk rock zero-hoots-giving independent developers who make whatever they want and don't care about the masses, man, then do shit that could only be considered shameless money-grabbing.

For example, in an interview Miyamoto basically shat on the new audiences they brought in with the Wii, saying it was awful to pander to a wide audience and they just want to attract their core audience. So it's over, right? They have enough money from crap like Wii Music and can focus on only making good games now. But... nah, now they're making fucking iPhone games.

This is not a recent thing; for years and years they couldn't decide if they wanted to promote creativity above all else or only care about raking in cash. On one hand you have Miyamoto saying they made Wind Waker because he looked at the Spaceworld 2000 demo and thought "this just isn't Zelda anymore" and implying that they don't care about the negative reaction to Wind Waker... then you have them making Twilight Princess to placate the "OOT is best audience" anyway. You have Miyamoto refusing to give in to pressure to give Yoshi's Island Donkey Kong-style graphics and instead making it reminiscent of a crayon drawing... but then you have him screwing over Rare by forcing them to stick the Starfox license into Dinosaur Planet; because money.

Then you have the fucking original GBA and oh my god what a sad money grabbing fiasco that whole thing was despite the system actually having countless great games. I seriously thought my copy was broken as a kid and I took it back to the store. When I looked stuff up online and found out about the SP being just a GBA but with the backlight it should have had from the get-go, released just in time for the holiday season, I thought "okay, Nintendo are freaking assholes". I still think that.

Not only was it greedy, it also screwed over developers by making them jump through hoops to somehow make their games visible on the GBA, Harmony of Dissonance looking brighter than a Kirby game.

...in retrospect though, Harmony's visuals do look kinda interesting even if the coloring 'style' was chosen because the system's screen was barely visible.

Best guy currently working at Nintendo right now is Hitoshi Yamagami (creator of Panel de pon, responsible for getting great devs to work for Nintendo like Treasures with Sin and Punishment and Platinum with Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta).

Anyway this is barely /vr/.

Rare wasn't forced to do anything. Miyamoto made a suggestion, that's all.

They don't really care for making 2D Marios so that's why you don't see much passion in there. 3D Mario is what they want to make, 2D Mario is what they make for money.

I mean, hell, the original NSMB didn't even have a lot of new 3D models; they just reused the Mario 64 DS versions of Mario, Luigi, bowser and a lot of enemies, and even the controls and movement in that game to an extent.

But yeah that's the problem with NSMB, they look like games made with an already-existing level editor instead of being planned out as a new adventure and THEN having the new assets built to fit that vision. A lot of old PC platformers had the same feeling and none of them are remembered as the best platformers ever; meanwhile SMB3 actually felt like a big adventure. How can you forget the angry sun swooping down from the sky to kill you, the battleship levels or the world where everything was giant? What about the stage play-like art direction of that game?

>> No.2834926

I don't like how all of their franchises are connected together like a single family. Same reason I hate Marvel.

I don't want my Metroid being associated with Mario and Zelda bullshit (no offense to Mario and Zelda).

This guy sounds pretty great, yeah. I'm really glad Sin & Punishment 2 exists above all else; I had no idea they would eventually make a sequel to a game that never made it out of Japan and that didn't even sell very well there. I fucking loved it though so it's great that there was a follow-up.

Apparently Sin and Punishment 2 got made because the virtual console release on Wii sold pretty well, and the game has always received praise ever since it came out in 2000.
But yeah it was still amazing it got done, and it turned out to be the best sequel Treasure ever did.
