Honestly, Retro Studios put their money where there mouth was with DKC Returns.

Not saying it was good or bad (because it's not retro), but that shit was hard as tits and not necessarily for the best reasons.

However I think NES and Game Boy games took the cake with difficulty because most are really short if you took the difficulty/learning curve out and the difficulty padded out the length.

Comix Zone is very easy game man. You just need to play it less like a beat 'em up and more like a graphic adventure. If you use the rat to find secret passages and items you can get to the end easily without losing a single life. This comes from a person who admittedly sucks at video games, including all arcade beat 'em ups.

>> No.2832025

I got pretty good at comix zone, I could usually get through most of the levels in pretty decent shape. Thing that messes me up the most is the jumps. Sometimes I lose two lives jumping across that one end jump of the first level.

It doesn't get more essential than Ghosts 'n Goblins. The stages and enemy placement are designed specifically to troll players.

Rockman 2 (i.e. the japan version of MM2) only had one setting, which is the "difficult" version in western releases. For the western release, they simply tacked on a "normal" mode that made the game way way easier.. so being that the "difficult" mode is the original mode, calling the normal mode "easy" is something people usually do, as it really is just a much easier version of the original game.

far as I can tell, the guy stopped caring about his big-name creations after the N64 anyway. I like the Gamecube too but it was sort of 'my console' of my childhood. Felt the same about the GBA though, really felt like a sloppy seconds machine. DS was a much better successor to the Game Boy legacy.

yeah I felt it too, after OoT the guy just burned out. But hey he basically made Nintendo into what it was with his creations. You could already see he was getting old as fuck with the creation of nintendogs, wii sports, wii fit and brain age, all of which were old people tier none games.

It`s hard to tell if the lack of Myiamotos innovation is the problem with nintendo or if it`s because he`s suppressing the talent. Imo it`s the combination of both.

I think Pikmin is really fun and also a unique concept. I wouldn't say that he completely lost his touch after OoT.

On linux distros that allow you to use testing repos, there's some amazing but hard as nails Super Tux levels, I think it's the development levels of Super Tux 2 0.3.3 or like that.
Especially on the addon levels.

Wizardry 4 is hard as shit and full of unfair bullshit, Ghost Of Trebor taking the cake:

>game is turnbased but he moves in realtime
>he moves even when the game is paused
>you can't fight him
>he moves closer and closer
>the only way to deal with him is to make a save (which resets all the enemies in whatever dungeon floor you're in), which will move him far away from you
>some of the enemies are literally player characters from previous titles that people sent in to the devs (as in, you're fighting someones grinded up character made to beat the other games in the series, mind you that Wizardry was considered a difficult series before 4)

I can't think of a better way for OP to buttfuck his bloodpressure.

Megazeux rules.

I feel kinda bad for the developer, though. She's trans, but her birthname is plastered all over both Megazeux and the ZZT communities.

I generally found that the difficulty is more based on avoiding epilepsy while playing it than the patterns.

I mean that purple is just bad for the eyes

It does get pretty crazy at points, but it's plenty beatable and well worth mastering.

I like this meme. It's genuinely quite hard in a very good way.

My vote goes to Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer. Especially the SFC version. You can game it a little and build up powerful weapons and armor over multiple playthroughs, but doing a straight run in that game is extremely difficult.
