Clearly the DX-Ball series, awesome levels, powerups, editor, etc.. and other stuff really worth it.

not retro but alphabounce gave me a good lot of fun, was interesting how it actually incorporated builds despite being a breakout clone.

>> No.2820642

There was a german flash breakout clone (the onl thing I can remember is the page said something like "das breakout game") that I would always play during class back in high school, but I don't know if the internet decided to preserve it somewhere or not.

Otherwise, Arkanoid is the one I've played the most. I bet there are way better ones.

It's a sentimental favorite as someone that grew up with Macintosh shareware in the 90s, but Beebop 2000. It's packed with gimmicks and is pretty casual on the whole, but whatevs.

Arkanoid, always and forever. Dad worked in an engraving shop back in 92 and his boss would let me play it and other Win3.1 games they had on the shop's computer when they were working on the plaques and trophies. Got lucky again years later when a nearby laundromat installed cabinets of it and Strider.
I like Doh it Again as well but I tend to stick to the original.

I was just trying to remember the name, thanks! DX-Ball was the shiznizzle. Can one get it to run today?
Second place: Arkanoid.

>> No.2821653

I wonder what the go-to Arkanoid clone is today? Surely they have some sort of gold-standard open source implementation everyone defaults to by now....

The first Touhou game. Seriously. It's super rough around the edges, but it's also a really trippy experience and that's what matters most to me in the end.
