Everything about The Well. I swear I'm the only one who found Bottom of the Well even fucking scarier then the Shadow Temple proper. Imagine it-

You're climbing down....Down....Down yet further still...Then the masonry begins to change....It looks strange and somehow abnormally lit from within...You hit bottom. The light of the sun is failing you. You see a passage. All along the passage are piles of...Something....Rotting on the floor. The stench is increasingly god-awful. How the fuck could the villagers be getting their _water_ from such a foul place? At last you come to a wall. There's distressingly large amounts of blood splashed on it...No wait....It's bleeding. If it counts, glitches or bugs where the game code breaks down but keeps running. Like most of the Pokemon Yellow glitches for Missingno that the game just can't handle and you end up with nightmare fuel music such as this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykzv6MTe-Qc
or this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwYQ0zGj-WU

Even minor things like garbage graphics appearing on sprites if the cart was nudged or that bug in Pokemon Puzzle Challenge where the stack glitches if you swap things too fast (usually happens on Intense difficulty).

I'm interested in them technically but I tend to have to turn the sound off and am on edge throughout

My mind used to come up with these strange scenarios to explain that stuff, like the devs abandoned the idea last minute, but still made it accessible. Same with that Big Nessy in the one world.

But I'll tell you my biggest fear- the secret cave on Lego Island. WHAT WAS BEHIND THE DOOR!!! I still get squirmy thinking about that. I think the fact that the background is black when your character dies makes it feel like your character is in an empty meaningless void. Which when you think about it is a perfect analogy for actual death. Also it's like looking in a forest at night. You know there are supposed to be trees there but you can't see shit and you don't know what's there so it's scary because you know a predator could be there and kill you, like the character you just got killed.

I played Manianc Mansion 1 when I was like six or seven years old. I didn't really know english by then so my big cousin that I played the game with translated shit for me.

I remember the first part. You enter the mansion, and you're in this spooky looking foyer, everything seems like it will fall apart or some shit. That alone seemed a bit creepy. And then you enter the kitchen. Fucking kitchen, man.

Dirty dishes, cobwebs. Worst of all, a fuckign chainsaw mounted on the wall which looked like a whole damn lot of blood plastered on the wall behind it.

>>Okay

And then you go inside the kitchen, nearing the fridge. I swear, when that fridge door closed and you could see Edna, the old hag, coming after you, I fucking screamed.

It would be years later that I found out it was a comedy game more or less. But to this day, I find that first location, that ground floor of the mansion more creepy than humorous.

I have a fear, for which I'm not sure there is a word. I'm afraid of gigantic open spaces, voids, and sudden drop-offs underwater. It seems like most people who are afraid of the ocean are afraid of sea monsters and such, but I'm afraid of the -scale- of the ocean, the darkness of it.

I first became aware of this fear after playing SM64. This black void in Dire Dire Docks put a feeling of dread over me, and I would do everything in my power not to look directly at it when I played that game.

I used to put down the controller and walk out while my older friends would beat the levels (was like 10-11 at the time). And I remember having a relatively ok time playing shit like Resident Evil or Parasite Eve, or watching slasher movies. But these levels fucking terrified me. I still don't know what it was, probably the sheer contrast with the rest of the game's atmosphere, but I also remember there being some very graphic imagery being on those paintings (but that was probably my imagination making things up)

No one knows. You can only guess by the lore given to you upon its presentation. Given its appearance it could have been a thief or murderer who was hanged.

Or given its appearing at the shadow temple (which used to be the torture area of the royal family), it could have been a traitor or an enemy of the state.
