What are some other good 3D games about exploration in a lively, atmospheric world?

Dark Souls. It's pretty much Zelda for grown ups.

>> No.2804998

Not retro.
And I wouldn't call any King's Field or Souls game "lively", exactly.

I thought that game is a 2.5D platformer, like Klonoa or Kirby 64

it's retro, too

that's the 2nd one, goemon's great adventure, MNsG is a 3rd person platforming/adventure game.

I recommend this game to everyone.

>> No.2805210

there are none

Everything is a combination of grimdank and a linear beat em up.

I kinda liked Asscreed because you could scale historical monuments, but going through procedural generated landscape gets repetitive fast.

That's not an adventure game, it's a platformer with a hub world.

>ocarina of time
>lively, atmospheric world
>every location of the game sits around a large empty field devoid of anything significant for gaming.

gosh, how can a mediocrity like this game be this overrated? Not even baiting, there's nothing appealing about that dull overworld.

>> No.2805297

>>2805285
Well I don't see "adventure game" anywhere in OP's post but yeah, there are many other N64 titles like Spyro which didn't get posted so OP is legitimately not looking for platformers I guess? Then again being a platformer and focusing on exploration aren't mutually exclusive.

>> No.2805306

>>2805294

just post what games you consider to fit OP's description instead of calling an universally acclaimed game overrated, you're not being original and aren't contributing to the board's quality.

Ocarina of Time was pretty Grimdank itself though.

I don't want to start an argument on your "universally acclaimed" part but I'm pretty sure his point was that OOT wasn't very lively, unless he has another whole definition of lively. Even MM was more lively than OOT.

>> No.2805312

>>2805306

This needs to be copypasta'd wherever completely asinine /v/-tier criticism of OOT exists. Succinct, to-the-point, irritated yet not overly juvenile.

>>2805307

And how! Child me was completely terrified of The Well (though the Shadow Temple was a close second).

OK, forget about OOT already, guy. Post games you consider to fit OP's text description.

>> No.2805328

I found OOT to be lively. Granted, MM did have it beat hands-down due to Clocktown.

OoT had an adventure world larger than any 3D game before it. Complaining about it not being more lively is like bitching why nobody was able to pull off something like The Witcher 3 in 5th generation. The technology just wasn't there yet.

>> No.2805343

>>2805335

So you can't think of any games, gotcha, guy.

>> No.2805473

>>2805342
I wouldn't complain about it normally since it's not a big deal honestly, but OP asked specifically for lively games.

I don't know about lively, but what's definitely atmospheric is Soul Reaver. Lots of block puzzles though but the level design sometimes blows my mind and there's a lot to explore.

>around
This is the key word. The field is a place, a single place, there's tons of other shit in the game's world and I have no idea why so many people have a hate fetish for this one area in the game, like they expected the field to surround everything else instead of being a single area that happens to connect a bunch of places and are disappointed that this one area wasn't what they were expecting and ignore everything else that makes the game interesting.

>> No.2806186

>>2805307

Oh definitely, but they didn`t go overboard into edgy territory unlike MM and Dank Souls where its nihilism incarnate the game. The attachment you got to the peaceful Hyrule as kid Link made you care more for its restoration.

I love the emptiness of Hyrule field, it makes it feel so vast and realistic. I don't get why people want everything to be chock-full of stuff to do.

you explore a lot and read about the locale, you don't really interact with people, but you can eavesdrop on everyone
