How rare are these things nowadays? There's a machine here at a local Chuck E Cheese/Peter Piper Pizza-type place.

About as rare as the next arcade machine.

Was Oratario Tangram even released in American arcades? I've never seen it.

>> No.2798021

>>2797996
not sure, but considering arcades themselves are rare, probably moderately.

I went to PA to visit my friends and we found a small arcade at the local mall, and it had one of them. shit was fun as fuck.

>xbox 360 port which isnt too bad

isn't too bad?

It adds new lighting effects, adds the arcade-only color customization and adds the 5.66 arcade-only Virtuaroids.

It's the best possible version to get.

Always wanted to get this, but the twin sticks are stupid expensive and I hear it's pointless to play it without them.

If you think that's bad, just remember that for the past 15 years or so, the Saturn sticks with adapters have been considered the cheaper and superior alternatives to the Dreamcast sticks since they look nicer and can be used on both systems instead of just one. For memory card stuff, just keep a regular controller plugged in.

The stock DC controller would only need just a single extra button in order to make this worth trying. Just one. Sega not having 6 face buttons on the DC controller seems like the dumbest shit in retrospect, especially with the existence of Capcom fighting games on the damn console.

Played often. Was in my 20s when it came out and arcades were still the real deal. One of the games I still hold in awe of the power a sweet arcade game w/ awesome cabinet holds. Also found a twin Virtua Racing setup in the back of a trucker gas station in Ontario, OR. I fuckin squeed.

In the arcade? Every time I go (Arcade Odyssey in Miami has it -- although they might have taken it out? I doubt it, but it's possible).

one of my buddies kicks my ass playing Fei-Yen against my Viper II, but I beat the shit out of everyone else I know

>>2798012
Oratan cabs are rare as fuck in the states, and I don't think there was ever a single 5.6 cab in the US. You might be able to find a 5.4 cab somewhere, but it's not likely at all.

>>2798081
it's almost great on the DC pad actually
except you're literally missing two buttons so you can't fucking circle-dash properly (you can attempt it with the stick, but the game requires you to keep it perfectly horizontal when doing it, also you have movement on the d-pad, so good luck clawing that)

If you have a 360, get that version.
Twinstick control only really works with the twin sticks though, don't bother with the dual-analog mode on the 360 port.

I grew up playing that, Daytona USA, Super Hang On and AfterBurner II. I cried when I heard they removed it from the local laser tag joint

Word of advice to anyone looking to play the windows port of Operation Moongate:

http://www.oratan.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1422

The following enables debug mode, which gives you the switch to turn the game from 30fps to full 60 Like the arcade version), It also has a link to patch in the original "YOU WIN", "YOU LOSE", "DRAW" and "TIME UP" voice clips and enemy Fei-Yen's sound effect when it goes hyper mode as well as removes the "now loading" screens

Apharmd is best Virtuaroid

I think that's the ONLY version I'd ever seen stateside actually.

Vaguely remember playing it at a round table pizza or something, one got brought to Sakura-con one year, and I think there's one at Another Castle games, as far as WA goes.

Same, it sits next to some kind of lightgun game. They're rarely turned on, seems kids would rather play in a bounce castle than an arcade game. I'd consider asking to buy it but I dont even know what one would go for.

Last year I went to a place called Skateland that had it and beat someone while the graphics on my side started glitching out a lot. It seems like every other time I go there the blue machine has an "Out of order" sign put on it.

>Apharmd is best Virtuaroid

I WOULD agree, but I hate how the CW causes the original Apharmd to slide forward each time. It NEVER grabs the enemy in time to matter any and I'm glad every future Apharmd doesn't do it. Apharmd C in VOOT is really the better model.

here, I think I'd like to go through with it and ask the guy if he'd sell. But like I said, I have no idea what one would go for. Is there a site that tracks the value of them like pricecharting does? I'm expecting around a grand, but thats just a complete guess.

Also, why don't we have arcade generals?

>> No.2804064

Operation moongate: play as temjin, Try cancelling CW to Crouch CW. The sword will swipe twice while moving forward, enabling you to slice as far as 200m range. Try also cancelling CW to crouch LW for bomb to a face of a blocking opponent.

Oratorio tangram: there are few almost instakill combo, fei yen can combo close combat to air stunned enemy to death except AI Ajim (fuck that). Raiden's half stun laser (LTCW releasing one of triggers early) followed by normal laser will hit enemy TWICE for fabulous damage.

Too varied a topic, I think. How could you hope to contain fighting games, shmups, light gun shooters, and driving games in the same thread, for example.
