Playing Majora's Mask for the first time and I have to say it is amazing! Got any tips for me? I'm playing it on an emulator.

Well I preferred the 3DS version, but it's a great experience none the less, the differences are not huge outside of the graphical overhaul. Great game, it recycles some models from OoT but still manages to build a world that's very different from any traditional Zelda game.

My tip is don't use guides and write down Clock Town characters' schedules yourself.

>>2792871
MM and WW are my two favorite Zelda games, but for very different reasons. I know this is a troll post but there's literally no reason someone can't enjoy two games in a series.

>>2792851
Yeah, depending on what kind of gamer you are you might not want to attempt 100% the first time around. Also, the Japanese version is significantly harder, do with that information what you will.

>> No.2792983

>>2792970
>Japanese version is significantly harder,
they redesigned the maze right before deku palace to make it less disorienting, removed one boring puzzle from the great bay temple and didn't include the temporary save system.

>> No.2793071

>>2792851

mah nigga

Just like me, fist played OoT and now MM, just finished the last temple.

What kind of tips? Every tip could be a potential spoiler. Also What Zelda games did you play before?

Just two things as example

- You cannot reunite Anju with her loved one until later in the game when you got Epona. Till then the quest will fail. She will then sit in her room waiting for him and he never will. So sad.

- If you like seeing those stats in the start menu and start from your file don't use savestates, they can mess up the game's internal save system so you lose your file and can only continue by jumping to our last savestate.

But Wind Waker is a substantially easier game and generally represents a massive dumbing down in Nintendo's development philosophy.

>> No.2793241

>>2792871
Please, Wind Waker and Sunshine get circlejerked to no end for being "ground breaking". If you take an objective look at both you'll find weak sequels to great games. You can't defend the huge amount of time wasting in Wind Waker, and you can't defend the horrible level design of Sunshine.

How? What's been 'dumbed down'? If anything WW was the first Zelda game with an actually big world to explore. I get that not everyone likes the sailing but it's not like running across Hyrule Field on foot or playing Epona' s song for the millionth time is terribly enthralling.

>> No.2793285

>>2792884

>...the differences are not huge outside of the graphical overhaul.

Completely untrue. Some rather substantial changes were made. Why do I get the feeling it's always the same jackass on /vr/ that keeps making excuses for this shitty port?

>> No.2793301

>>2792970

>Yeah, depending on what kind of gamer you are you might not want to attempt 100% the first time around.

Number one advice that should be given to players the first time 'round.

Changes such as?

>> No.2793310

>>2792983

1. The "boring puzzle" they _altered_ (not removed) is required. The time differential between solving the two is also quite substantial.

2. The maze being disorienting was only one problem- it also had enemies and other bullshit to do. Granted, it's still little more than a small grotto either way, but since you _will_ be going back to the fat fuck beanseller multiple times the added time lost each trip quickly stacks up.

3. The temporary save system fundamentally alters the game. In this case, it was for the better, but still...

The Japanese differences are not minor.

>> No.2793320

>>2793074

True, but the big reveal and overall message of the endgame still hit me square in the feels.

I still consider Spirit Tracks to be the legit sequel to Wind Waker (not Phantom Hourglass as Nintendo would have us believe).

Sorry for the not retro, folks.

>> No.2793324

>>2793241

True. I like Wind Waker, but it is undeniably a weaker game than what came before it. To add insult to injury, they even let all the obviously truncated content stand as-is on the Wii U port.

Sunshine, ground breaking? I know it's not retro but - how the fuck is this game ground breaking?

The AI for the enemies is actually pretty pathetic. I know coming off from the OOT and MM school of combat they basically stood no chance whatever against me. Even the bosses were a breeze up until Ganondorf.

Only area where TP improved over its predecessor in my opinion.

>> No.2793343

>>2793306

- Bomber's Notebook is now handed to you in the most retarded and plot-inconsistent manner possible short of it literally falling out of the sky and landing on your head fist step out of the clock tower door. Hell, I actually think I would've preferred that.

- The bosses are now all much easier.

- Zora swimming is all kinds of horseshit.

- Don't even get me started on the defiled visuals. The bosses now have Aonuma's trademark we'll-just-stick-an-eyeball-on-it bullfuckery, and the aesthetics in general have been completely butchered.

In short, everything the did right with the OOT port, they did wrong here. Except the visuals, which were adulterated with remarkable thoroughness and consistency in both enhanced ports.

Honestly, most of those seem like fairly small differences. The gameplay changes to Zora Link were positive, and the boss changes...Well, I liked them. Made them feel more Zelda-esque, I suppose. But I can understand how you didn't.

>>2793334
>Only area where TP improved over its predecessor in my opinion.

Cinematic takedowns don`t make the combat good, I know you were 13 when you first played TP but the combat is basically identical to it`s predecessors, all the extra moves are optional.

>> No.2793827

I've played OoT and LttP when they came out, I beat the original LoZ on GBA a couple years back and I beat WW and played 3/4 of TP

>> No.2793835

>>2793526
A game can have both style and substance, though. If "extra things" are bad then you should probably stick to Zelda I.

TP was not great but the combat was solid, especially for a Zelda game.

>>2793334
Protip: Zelda games were never challenging when looking purely at the combat. If you've played one 3D Zelda game, literally every other 3D Zelda game will seem easy to you. And WW's combat had a little bit more depth than OoT's due to the parry system, I think, but aside from that it's literally about the same.

I suppose Skyward Sword is an exception because it actually has some significant changes in how you handle your sword.

So I'm about to do my second playthrough of Majora's Mask. I want to try the Japanese version, since it seems to be slightly harder, but I don't want to play the game in Japanese, not only because I'll miss out on the story but also because it will probably disrupt gameplay. Is there an English translation of the Japanese version, like there is with FF IV?

Majora's Mask has great "tone" to it, it's kinda the same reason I feel people like FF7 -- both games have a really macabre tone that permeats the entire game.

most zelda games focus on story and setting over tone so it's a really interesting departure from the rest.

>Can you elaborate on how they changed the notebook?

The notebook changes were the best thing they did. They altered it from the illogical system the original game had, which informed you of all the times of a given character's events once you talked to them for no reason, to one where you discover information about individual events on a case by case basis. It also keeps track of additional information and way more characters.
