This odd glitch/shortcut I found when I was a kid (PAL SMS2).
Jump at the spring, it pushes you back so you jump again, and you get jammed into the corner 'stuck'.
Press jump and you'll be rocketed up to the next area.

I decided to watch a speed run video, turns out this is a known glitch.
I also use the ramp/jump on the first level to skip it when I usually play, which turns out is another speed running technique that gets used.

you can take a block out of one of the pot rooms and drop it somewhere in the main room and then go back down the same pot and get the respawned block again

I could never forgot about liu kang's fatality from MKII. d,f,bb C (or HK, I was playing on Genesis).

I still occasionally do it every time I get a controller in my hands. Just something that's burned in my muscle memory.

I guess other people have longer ones burned into theirs, like the konami code, which I also remember, but it's not something I can do without thinking it first, liu's dragon fatality comes off unconsciously.

A long time ago in an old Nintendo Power they had an article about the Hercules: The Legendary Journeys game that was being made for N64. The screenshots and the description of the game made it seem amazing, but that was the last time they ever mentioned it. For a while I just assumed it was cancelled at some point. I eventually played the underwhelming game on an emulator years later. For some reason though it stuck as an example of a game that in my head I imagined as being amazing, but it never came to be. The game did get made of course but the version of it that I created in my mind didn't exist.

At the beginning of the DOS port of Arkanoid 2 revenge of DOH, there's this image of the place called "fun time arcade". This image was so insanely cozy that I have yet to forget it 20 years later. I remember being a kid wanting to go there so badly and I could never really put my finger on why. As an adult, I still want to go to Fun Time Arcade probably more than ever. There's just something about old DOS art that just evokes comfort in me.
