if it is true M2 developed it it could be good, at least for people like me who use a hacked wii for snes, nes, turbografx and genesis games, since wii sucks for gba games.
M2 are the people who make the Sega 3D Classics for 3DS, and the people who made tha GBA virtual console for Wii U, which is the only good virtual console on the Wii U.

Maybe they work if you want a cartridge dumper. But at 250k yen they're pretty expensive.

There only connection this thing has to M2 is one dubious post here.
I'd be surprised if it's anything other than common open source emulators.

You know, I would actually consider buying something like this despite all their flaws if they actually just loaded ROMs like every other emulator. I'm not going to put wear on my original cartridges to use an emulator when I could just use the original console.

Oh well, guess I'll just have to make due with HTPCs.

It supposedly has some kind of cartridge-ripping function (that encrypts the data to that individual unit).
But if you're not interested in cartridge reading at all, that Nvidia android box might be worth looking into.

It has a slot for PCE cards but it doesn't take NES cartridges without an adapter.
The biggest advantage seems to be that you can detach the cartridge reader so that you can actually save space around your TV.
But being better than a Retron is hardly an achievement.

The software part come from the same people who did Retron 5 software, i.e already existing open-source emulators sold as if it was newly developed ones, with original authors getting nothing in return off course and sub-contracted "developer" company making $$$$ with minimal adapting and recompiling work.

Believe what you want, I'm just stating what I've been told and I have no reason not to believe that guy as he is directly involved in the development of one of the used emulator. I contacted him some time ago about Retron5 to warn him they were using his code, then recently informed him about Retro Freak. That's when he told me he was already aware and it was the same software guys behind the two products, without telling me more...

Anyway, I guess we will see when this thing get hacked and the open-source emulators it is surely hiding are exposed, just like what happened with Retron5 (and forced them admitting what they were doing and publishing the source code they were using).

This is also much more credible than believing a very famous Sega in-house department has been developing emulators from scratch for an obscure retrogaming product company.

Or maybe someone here is trying to spread this rumor and using M2 name in order to get more people buying this crappy retron5 clone?

>> No.2771410

>>2771376
I never said software was exactly the same but that the company behind it was the same. All they needed to do was adding a SD card driver in their SoC to read ROM from internal storage instead of cartridge ports and an open-source PC Engine emulator.

retron has an sd card slot and it can already read from internal storage, the only reason it's designed to read from the cartridge slots is to appeal to resellers. with a simple program you can convert your entire supported rom collection into retron format ips files and load them from the menu, you liberally don't know what you're talking about.

>> No.2771503

>>2771470
Where did I say it didn't have a SD card slot? My point was actually that the two products are very similar and Retron5 only misses software to directly read the ROM files from Internal storage and load it in emulators. Sure it can read savestate and IPS patch files but so far, it does not have a ROM browser and you can not run ROM files from SD that are not converted to IPS and without a dedicated cartridge inserted (unless you hack it maybe, but that was not the point).

So, what about you stop trolling or assuming you are the only knowledgable anon around here?

>> No.2771526

>>2771503
a) it'll load any converted rom directly from the patch menu
b) you don't even need a matching cart for that system inserted
the cart slot is nothing more than another bogus security check
