Taito games
my favorite is Bubble Bobble

>> No.2763860

>>2763852
>Double Dragon
Technos Japan

>Zero Wing, Twin Cobra
Toaplan

But Taito is still one of the greatest arcade game developers ever...

>Bubble Bobble
>Rainbow Islands
>The New Zealand Story

These 3 games are infinitely replayable and timeless. They're in the Top 10 arcade games ever as far as I'm concerned.

Why do all versions of Bubble Bobble outside the original suck? Im talking about games like the GB and Genesis versions.

Apparently that Sega Genesis game you're talking of is a Chinese bootleg.

Hardware differences obviously. Also, maybe Taito didn't develop the ports themselves and hired some inexperienced 3rd party dev to do them.

The NES version was pretty, never played it but I can't the GB version being THAT different than the NES game, since most GB ports of games that were also on the NES were just the NES games with more scrolling because of the smaller screen.

Liquid Kids might be the cutest game ever made. The walking animation while in water makes women instantly love the game.

Taito is one of my favorites. While a lot of their games don't quite hit the mark they are usually overflowing with style and panache.

I've been really digging into New Zealand Story. The game is very hard but there is something very addicting about trying to get further and further into the game.

They started the arcade boom in Japan with Space Invaders almost 40 years ago and now are the only ones keeping the arcade scene alive with their Type-X boards. Funny stuff.

Obligatory Vertexer post!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuSX3DAss0E

It actually just came to me that Wyvern F-0 after all these years has been finally dumped a year ago. Here's hoping webm related becomes available in the recent future as well.

Speaking of Wyvern F-0,
>The game boards produce two separate video outputs that are sent to two different screens housed in the cabinet. A half-silvered mirror is used to mix the images from the two screens in such a way as to produce a pseudo-3D effect. Backgrounds and enemies on the ground are displayed in the lower screen, while player ship and enemies in the air are displayed in the upper screen. These appear to be at different depths to the eyes of the player, thus giving the illusion of sprites in the air floating above the ground.
>To further enhance the effect, the cabinet also has two speakers. The sound of enemies on the ground is heard from the bottom speaker, while the sound of enemies in the air is heard from the top speaker.

Quite possibly the most innovative arcade developers, together with SEGA.

Pretty garbage when you get serious about 1cc'ing though. In fact, you should know most of the Taito games are trash if you played them at high level.

My favorite Taito game is Little Samson, I had it and beat it, but I traded it for a copy of Aero fighters, a year of Xbox Live, and Super Metroid. That was back when it was in the 600 dollar range.

What a load of fucking bollocks.

>> No.2764770

>>2764645
trash inasmuch as these games rarely have intricate scoring systems - or rather, they depend a lot on farming and milking points (e.g. milking enemies out of doors in Elevator Action 2). Newcomers should not play Taito games solely for score because they are essentially secondary to the game itself. If you want to I mean hey, more power to you.

1CC is a different story - with or without autofire Darius Gaiden is an excellent game.

>>2764586
raycrisis is my underdog of the series - it has its problems but it is a lot more interesting to play for me. I hope R-Gear is dumped sometime in the near future so I can see how RayStorm stacks up with its cancelled 2D proto.

you try making a port where the only access to the assets is a playthrough of the original

Also seeing arkanoid makes me cringe, its fun as fuck but nothing feels worse than finding an old arcade cab, recognising the shape as a Pac-Man or 720 or something, then seeing it was converted to an arkanoid years prior

only thing worse is seeing rare cabs MAMEd
