I'm warning all retro enthusiasts who are looking to check out some newer games or "broaden their horizons": DON'T.

Do not buy any single video game released in or after November 2006 (launch of the PS3/Wii, when the 7th gen really started to take off). No modern game is worth the time, money, bandwith, or trash space. Play MGS1-3 instead.

Sixth gen (not retro, but still the last decent one) or below, otherwise fuck off. There are no good games made after 2006, and there never will be for all eternity.

>> No.2746095

6th gen was definitely the peak (the retro fedoras will disagree, though). It turned to shit fast with 7th gen, but there was still some decent stuff like Dead Rising and Valkyria Chronicles.

Demon's Souls
Dark Souls.
Dragons Dogma
Folklore
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Red Dead Redemption
Grand Theft Auto 4
Grand Theft Auto 5
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Invalidates everything you just said.

Sorry Sega fanboy. Your console was always shit.

>the only good games are the ones I grew up with!

Everyone on this board loves retro games, and most probably agree that the golden age of gaming is gone, but that does not mean all modern games are trash.

>> No.2746129

It is possible to enjoy games from any era and appreciate them for what they are or were without dragging things into a "my toys are better than yours" situation.

Rather than being upset at modern games, why not mention some of your favorite old games and talk about why you liked them. You don't have to compare them to modern games either, just talk about your experience with them.

Sadly no it's not possible, cause nerds these days think they need a sense of superiority in order to live with their live.

You know what I like though? Virtual-On, I really enjoyed that game series and played VO:OT to death both on the dreamcast and when it got ported to the 360.

Sadly I wasn't good at it and chances of such games like that appearing is not happening anytime soon.

I would love to see a new Virtual On arcade game. Maybe it could use the card system from Initial D, and you could win new parts/weapons for your robot, as well as keep track of your win record.

It would probably hit big in japan if there as a robot game that combined aspects of those two games you mentioned. I could totally see a Gunpla arcade thing happening. Just not in the states cause arcades are ultimately dead due to the drastic change of social interactions over the course of the decade or so.

Retro is my preference and always will be, but the only reason that I don't play anything modern is because I'm a poorfag who can't afford to. There's a lot of shit out, but that doesn't mean that there's nothing good...Gaming has always been that way. For every good game, there's hundreds of shit games.

I agree, 2006 is the year gaming, along with everything else good, died.

Quite possibly.

I assume >>2746105 thinks the OP is a Sega fanboy because he posted a Sega game in the OP.... But it's a notoriously bad game and the OP's point is that new games aren't as good as old ones? How does he infer that OP is a Sega fan? It's honestly fucking weird how dumb that post is.

>> No.2746212

I'm really enjoying the Tomb Raider reboot.

In fact I'd even say I prefer it to the original. Come at me.

There's a dozen or 2 two games released everyday OP. Believe it or not there are some good games that come out still. Your taste is just so shitty that you can't see them.

Just git gud you dinosaur.

Ironically, I don't like the color of the font used there and find myself wishing that its author would've stopped liking it too.

Indeed.
