Did you use your console to listen to music back in the day?

>> No.2743789 [DELETED]

I still use. I use the PS3, because I can hook up a HD filled with 230 GB of mp3s and it reads just fine. Most stand alone players just crash. And I can use my wireless headset. Also, I can control the PS3 using my vita, this way I can watch tv and listen to music.

and, yeah, of course, back in the ways when I didn't have a cd player everywhere, I used my ps and 3do to listen to music.

When I was a kid our family had a stereo, but if I was listening to music in my room it would be through the playstation. The stereo was a pain in the ass to move, so it was more convenient and I was a kid, so I didn't care about sound quality.

A lot of them played those back during the game, until it was possible to play some form of compressed audio (that could store more music in the cd).

Sega specifically mentioned in their guidelines that some users might want to play Saturn discs in the hi-fi, so there should be always at least one CD Audio track, even if you aren't using cd-audio for music.

the whole OST was awesome, but yeah the intro track by Takkyu Ishino is probably the cherry on the top. I loved how it plays in the last level, or the level before that.

Probably the reason the game itself didn't include the CDA tracks to be played on a stereo was because Sony actually monetized on the soundtrack, as it was one big production, Takkyu Ishino produced, and several techno producers from Europe (mainly Germany and France) collaborated with original tracks. Guys like Hardfloor, Westbam, etc.

In Japan there were several editions in vinyl of the soundtrack, apart from the CD release.

That thing was insanely great. I still have a ton of stuff from there I didn't replace (couldn't find where they come from).

Like, there was a superb quality Doom 1-2 gamerip there - it used the original SC-55 samples, but with the reverb/echo module as well, which gave the tunes a huge kick in power. It took over 10 years for the fandom to make original SC-55 recordings since, and even those don't have these effects, which make them sound much more dull.

I wish I saved those, I only have one, and it is one of the worst recordings with a lot of clipping.

Sometimes I would (and still do) put a game on and go to the sound test and let BGMs play while I do chores.
As far as using Saturn or PS1 as a CD player, I did but very rarely. I love using headphones, and it was generally much simpler and more enjoyable to use a walkman or something portable or sit by the stereo. It was neat having the option to play audio CDs in your CD-based consoles, though.

You put the CD in the fucking CD Unit, you dolt.
It has a DC Jack a stereo jack and headphone jack + controls + LED display thus making it able to operate even without the IFU (Interface Unit, the thing you plug PC-Engine and CD-ROM^2 in)

If it's in the IFU it you can operate it using the buttons on it without booting up the main PC Engine unit. In this case the sound comes out of the RCA jacks on the IFU.
