It wouldn't be popular (which it isn't already), but it's a good game on its own. And you're supposed to now see it as a Chrono Trigger game, the game itself makes a point of not saying it's a sequel at every turn, and at a glance it has nothing to do with it. If it wasn't connected to it, some people would still play it because it has a good story and it's one of the few text adventures game for the system. I know I would, I like text adventures, and plenty other people like them too.

By the way, claiming it's "barely a game" just because you don't like text adventures is daft.
