I replayed dark forces and was surprised the game had WASD controls from the start, first game of that time I replay that has it.

Mouse aim is horrible though so I might just start using the directional keys to turn.

By the way I tried out XL engine, which is basically a rewrite of the engine with a modern renderer, works pretty great other than the fact that looking straight up or down still distorts the grahpics

>> No.2741174

>Mouse aim is horrible though so I might just start using the directional keys to turn.

XLengine is buggy and has a lot of problems with not replicating the game's original behavior. Enemy AI is dumber, grenade physics are borked, some animations and sprites don't play correctly, many small things. I just make a list and keep it handy for /vr/.

Also, you can't play any of the awesome community-made levels with it.

When I was talking about mouse aim I meant in the original game, you can only turn left and right and that would be fine but mouse acceleration fucks up the aim a lot.

Oh, yeah, sorry, that greentext was a mistake on my part. I was going to say there was no mouse aiming in the original game, but then realized what you meant and forgot to delete it before replying.

Anyway, I was about to link you to the site df-21.net which used to have a bunch of map reviews and downloads, but the site seems to be down. I hope it's a temporary thing because there was awesome stuff there and I don't know if anyone has it archived.

Happened with a lot of replays lately.

When I played Dark Forces as a kid, it was always on normal with god mode enabled.
When I played it recently, it was on hard mode with no cheats. Rad game. Had a blast rushing around blasting dudes. Fuck those bounty hunters with concussion rifles though, and Jabba's ship can get fucked too.

That sewer level scared the shit out of me as a kid, and I would constantly get lost. Not so much now, cranked it out in under 10 minutes.

Overall I enjoyed it much more as an adult.

Honestly, the problem is with you.

Online games are always the same shit and they are always replaced by better versions of them later.

For example, if you want to play Ragnarok Online because that's the game you played when you were a teenager, then go play Tree of Savior.

If you played runescape, go fuck yourself.

Also, these kind of games always have pirate servers that will go on as long as people want them.

You're problably underage.
