Are there any retro games out there with heavy Lovecraftian/Eldritch influences? I've never been able to find any.

Not that I'm aware of. I'm sure theres some oldschool point n clicks.

But obviously the non-retro:
>Call of Chutulu
>Bloodborne

Yeah, fan of BB. Never got around to CoC.

>>2738836
I didn't look far into it. Just assumed it was related to the 2005 game of the same name.

>>2738848
Sort of. Never beat Quake all the way through (despite loving it), but the only thing Lovecraftian I recall are the Shamblers.

Koudelka has a pretty much textbook Lovecraftian plot, but the magic kind instead of the alien kind.

It's not even half bad.

Sandy Petersen is a huge nerd who loves Lovecraft (he wrote a CoC game even), he worked a bit of that into Doom and Quake.

The Innsmouth game looks like a very bland corridor shooter to me.

Diablo had a little, Zhar The Mad was based on a character from I think In The Mountains Of Madness, and there was some text strings in the code of the Pre-Release Beta, which made mention of the "Sarcophagus of Tfarc Evol"

Not accidental, "inspired" or anything; it walk the line of being explicitly based on the Cthulhu universe, and some of the references (in books and whatever) are straight out of the C Mythos

Oh come on, at LEAST post the SNES version.

>>2739342
Always wanted to play it, I don't know why I feel more unsettled by this than anything that came after it. I really do think it's all the jagged edges, slow pace and actually dark subject matter that just runs together and scares me off.

If you made a Lovecraft like game that's sort of like that old Eye Of The Beholder dungeon crawl, do you think it could be good?

I guess it could be vaguely Call Of Cthulu themed, in that you'd try to avoid or hide from a lot (but not all) monsters and encounters.

>> No.2743273

>>2743267
It came out years before Eye of the Beholder, but the PC-88/X68000 dungeon-crawler Laplace no Ma is close enough, having Wizardry influences but also unique customization/loot mechanics (you take photos of nasties to make money in 1920s New England) + combat with character fears and such. Only the dumbed-down SFC game has a translation unfortunately.

This. This is the quintessential Lovecraft game.
Though it suffers a bit from a bad interface and overly tough difficulty, one of those games that really deserves a competent remake. Heck, worth checking out for the Lovecraft museum mini game that comes with it and all of them famous actors cameos.
