The picture is too shitty to see whether those are Nintendo brand controllers. Same goes for the AV cable. That power supply is a generic piece of shit and I wouldn't pay money for it.

If the AV cable and controllers are Nintendo brand, 100$ is pretty fair market for the bundle, although I wouldn't pay that if I already had a console and most of those game. I'd offer 50$ if someone was trying to dump that shit fast and just wanted to be rid of it. I'd probably go up to even 60$, but beyond that, I wouldn't bother for a flip.

Since we're talking ebay though, They probably won't let it go for less than 80$, and even that's a stretch.

People have money they can spend on anything they like, people have the internet to research anything they like and can choose to make their opinion and buy whatever they like. As long as people aren't putting lies and misinformation out there they should feel free to put out their opinion.

I dont like the retron 5 in particular, but think the older retrons are not totally terrible.

Granted, all of that is highly unlikely, but it is totally a thing that could happen- I'd like to keep original hardware in the hands of the most competent people who will legit love them, and hopefully its one more alternative to help keep the prices of original hardware cheap enough for those people to buy

Yes retron 5 is not great, but retron 1,2&3 arent bad, along with the retro trio and other non android based clone console. Is the sound perfect? No. Are the visuals slightly off? Yes. Are the "Non-Retron 5" clones unplayable- Not at all. Although yes they are worse than original hardware. Which brings me back to: Wouldnt you rather have these clone consoles in the hands of people who dont care about sound or color being slightly off because all they really want is to play is Super Mario 3 and Tecmo Super Bowl at loud ass frat parties on shitty LCD tvs?

Rather than people who dont care about the important details wont be hogging the original hardware.

And technically Retron 5 DOES add the ability to play your old school physical carts on your shiny brand new tv by hdmi. Unless you felt like modding and converting a whole buncha shit there really isnt much of another way you are gonna do that

I feel your argument and the college hipsters who get drunk and play vidya casually would definitively be better served with a cheap console. Just know I ain't trying to bust your balls.

Retron 5 is not the end all be all option to get good HDMI picture out of old consoles. Frameisters and other upscalers can be utilized with specific cables and no mods.

While Frameisters are expensive, they don't cost too much more than the Retron 5 with the added benefit of standard hardware.

I also say the Wii with the right cables and some emulators is a mighty cheap and decent looking way to get some old vidya on LCD screens. Not as crisp as the Retron 5 but a damn sight cheaper.

>Buy a lot of games

>cannot get 4 of them to work for the life of me
>Tell seller this and he insists its my NES and the contacts are just dirty, asks if I have another NES multiple times
>Show video of games working first try, and then trying to boot these games up
>Have already opened and cleaned them
>Seller tells me to clean them, asks again if I have another NES
>get insulted by this and open a return request
>Request 4/15ths as a partial refund since the rest of the lot is good
>seller agrees, wants me to send the faulty ones back
>i accept the return
>have them all packed up and ready to ship but I dont wanna lose half my refund to shipping them back to this true dingus
>http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/item-not-as-described.html
>Read above link
"Partial refunds

Giving the buyer a partial refund allows the buyer to keep the item, and helps you avoid having to issue a full refund or post a new item.

For example, if a buyer bought a new camera, and it arrived with scratches, the buyer might be happy with the item but want to return it for a new one without scratches. You might offer a partial refund to the buyer to make up for the scratches.

You and the buyer can work together to agree on an acceptable amount for a partial refund. The buyer can accept your offer for a partial refund, request a different amount, or suggest a different solution. You can refund the buyer through My eBay."

So.
Since I've already accepted the refund am I under any real obligation to send them back? I assume not. Besides the "moral" thing to do.

The games are garbage, as far as I can tell and they have no use to me, besides being donor shells if I find one that works.

Agree with you for the most part. I just dont get why anyone on here should hate on the Retron and other clone consoles. It is certainly not the primary console of choice, especially not for most of the type of people on this board (want 100% compatibility, care about the tiny details in quality ect) but it does provide them some kind of benefit and the retro game market would certainly be worse off without Retron and Hyperkin in general.

I agree a retron isn't totally pointless, but for most people it is. I can concede its a good way to play hard games if you're a casual (save states and shit), a decent way to play GBC and GBA games since gamecube players are expensive and require a gamecube (like most people I ditched my gamecube when a wii came out and only recently picked one up again, along with a gameboy player, specifically fro GBA. I did consider a Retron5 but chose the GC/GBA player), lets you get HDMI out on HDTV's and again, most people don't have CRT's anymore.

Its definitely for the casual crowd.

Yes, it is for the casual crowd and for nostalgia...but what is wrong with that?

On this board yes most people consider themselves "hardcore" gamers. But do you think the majority of people are? Not at all.

Casuals make the video game world go round. (Its not retro but...) Wii was the best selling console last generation because it was most casual and had widest appeal despite being under powered. PS2 won the generation before it also being under powered practically on the sole reason that it was an affordable DVD player.

You should be happy when some casual buys a retron because that just leaves one more original console that wont be wasted on someone who wont truly appreciate it.

What I still don't understand is why they would get one in the first place. These are people who don't care about retro hardware, but have enough physical carts laying around to make buying a Retron worth it? Do people like that really exist?

It seems pretty split to me between people who care a lot, want original hardware being displayed on CRTS and the flip side of people who don't care and just emulate. I find it hard to imagine there's a large population of people in the middle.

Of course there are people who dont care about getting the most out of their systems. They just want to play the game. This includes people who had a ton of games for their NES but believe it to be "broken" because the 72pin adapter doesnt work and they dont know how to change it themselves, using a retron as a 2nd or 3rd console for vacation homes or the office, or just want the convenience- it really is nice to have one console that can "do it all".

Yes the colors aren't perfect, yes the sound isn't perfect, but its good enough to get the job done. I'm sure there are Michelin star food critics who still eat fast food because its is just convenient. It not as good as what they are used to, but it works just fine.

In my opinion, and the opinion of most the earlier models were "better".

Although the Retron 5 technically plays more systems it is based on Android emulation. So when you start up the system there is a GUI and settings selections to go through. Also it reads the cartridge that you put into the system, pulls the rom, and then lets you "manipulate it" by putting or shaders- it acts more like an emulator.

Because of this flashcarts are unable to be used on the system. Additionally the android tech seems to run as an "always on front end" so midway through your game you could hit a sort of home button and go back to the main menu. But because of this it seems to make the rom less stable and the Retron 5 has a nasty habit of freezing on its own and pushing you back out towards the main menu.

Retron 1, 2 and 3 just act as clone consoles made on parts that are not as good as the original system hardware. It will read games and act just like your old SNES, NES, and Genesis- so it works with Flashcarts. The only downside is the aforementioned "lower quality parts". So the Retrons dont output to Scart/Component, and colors may be slightly saturated more so than the original and the sound is a little more "tinny", but everything is there.

Interesting info, thank you. I guess I'm biased since I jumped the ship to emulation years ago. Any of them seem like a huge hassle compared to just booting a rom which with even a semi decent PC or laptop these days will run buttery smooth in whatever resolution/filter/scanline setting you want. For free. Or at most the price of a cable.

And like I say, I get the collectors and hardware enthusiasts who want to keep that authentic feel. I'm just surprised there are enough middle ground people around with a box full of carts willing to pay for something like that. I used my boxes of carts to buy a new tv.
