is this worth picking up for $80? I want one but that seems like way too much for this thing. lets hear some opinions.

I bet that chews up batteries.

Just get a PsP for less.

PSP or ñ3ds are better portable emulation choices

Buy pic related. Plays NES & SNES, also there is an adapter for Genesis games too! 80 bucks and its 10x's better then the nomad

it absolutely chews up batteries.

thankfully, things called rechargeable batteries and battery packs exist.

imo it's awesome if you want a Genesis on the go. It's a bit bulky but you can't beat playing the real thing on the go. The screen sucks too but you can get a good LCD mod that will not only significantly improve the picture quality, it'll also improve the battery life (but not by much).

it also has a controller port and A/V out.

i dont understand why people are giving you shit. nomad and this are practically the same idea but this is so much better because of better battery life, better screen, controls and sound.

Nomad isn't on-a-chip emulation, and the sound is pretty great as far as I'm concerned.

I had a Nomad in high school, shit was cash. Used to play Phantasy Star 2 on bus ride home. One of the Genesis AC adapters works with it, I think it's the MK-2103

Nice to have if you're going to be in one spot for a while near an outlet (like in a hotel room or something).

Honestly though, in terms of portable retrogaming you could get a PSP Go for significantly less and play every Genesis game along with roughly a billion other retro games on an emulator that is basically 100% accurate and as a side bonus the system is significantly more portable.

>> No.2733650

Too big and bulky ,and the screen looks horrific by today's standards ,go down the psp route

>> No.2733750

>>2733224

Don't do it. If you want to play Genesis games at home, hit up your local craigslist for a $20 Model 1 or 2. On the go? Anything will emulate the Genesis at full speed nowadays.

I get what you're feeling right now though... I thought the nomad was so badass when I was a kid.

Do it. you obviously aren't a retard who does not know about emulators, so if you're considering the Nomad it's because you care about the pros and cons of real hardware. if these weren't important to you, you'd be playing sonic 2 on a psp or even worse, on your android device with touchscreen controls. any of these would be more convenient and cheaper options. So yeah, get one and get it LCD modded. You'll never regret it. Pic related, that's my Nomad before and after. I installed a region mod as well.

>> No.2733774

>>2733764
Can it be RGB modded? IIRC the screen uses composite internally.

>> No.2733790

>>2733774
Well.. the original LCD uses RGB, so I'm sure it's feasible. I'll be honest with you: I didn't bother trying. I believe that at that screen size, the improvements on picture quality would have been minimal and the amount of extra work was simply not for me. I'm sure someone will pull it off sooner than later, though.

Mega Drive emulation has been all but perfected with Genesis Plus GX. The only thing that would get in the way would be the controller you're using.

Nomad owner here. It's a neat novelty if you're a collector, but not a very good practical portable gaming machine.

With the battery pack attached it's very heavy and will eat through them super quickly. The other option is to use a power adapter which is what I usually do, but that makes it less portable. Also the screen is neat looking, but not of great quality.

Like I say if you're into collecting and want one as a curiosity item then it is a pretty neat little device and a fairly cheap addition to your collection.

But as a portable Genesis player, the PSP is better in every way. Better battery life, better and bigger screen and can hold the whole library on it's memory card. These days I virtually never use my Nomad anymore.

So take from that what you will.

I am laughing so hard right now. Sorry I haven't taken dozens of pictures of it so you have some variety to look at when people ask about Nomads. That this has irritated you delights me.
