It's a fucking meme which relies on satisfaction to have any remnant of being decent. The Japanese game is more manageable, but the American original is nothing more than a perseverance test.

I've made it past the tunnels.

I've made it to the ice level after it and died with my whopping 2 lives to spare which granted me like... 5 minutes tops of gameplay past those damn tunnels.

So there's that.

I usually play games to go on adventures, not to grind my teeth or prove something to myself.

That's not to say I don't enjoy challenge, but games where that is the sole appeal don't interest me. I also admire people who have the skill the find shit like this easy, but again just not for me.

Finishing it is literally piss easy. Speedrunning on the other hand...

>> No.2726719

mastering Battletoads is some of the most fun you can have playing video games. there are so many advanced techniques, you just get a real sense of skill progression as you are slowly able to breeze through levels with ease.. just so damn satisfying and fun. I never realized what a piece of art the game was until I learned how to beat it.

you really owe it to yourself as a gamer to give it a good effort at making it through the game.

This so much. All the fun glitches like consecutive headbutts, dash jumps, and all the other things are what makes the game so satisfying to play. It does get very punishing as you try to be faster and faster, though.

So David Wise made the music for Battletoads.

>yfw the donkey kong country soundtracks and the infamous battletoads pause music are from the same guy

>> No.2726863

David Wise is an excellent composer. also did cobra triangle and ironsword iirc.

Ive beaten turbo tunnels and made it further into battletoads. it's an excellent game but it's really demanding, which is why I didn't stick to it.

in the first level, you can use the flying pigs as a mount and use them to spit fireballs.

Totally pointless troll comment, not only for those of us who are bad at Battletoads but for those of us with urinary problems.

He's explaining how he beats the game in a way that mostly anyone can replicate.
It's not theorycrafting, and it's not for speed.

yeah I get that. but there are certain things he does that are bad strats anyway you look at it.

It isn't a good idea for someone who just wants to beat the game to try to squeeze through pixel perfect gaps in the spike hitboxes, or replicate the Turbo Tunnel skip which is many times harder to pull off than just playing the Turbo Tunnel

>> No.2727060

>>2727041
one example are the yellow blobs in intruder Excluder, he tells you to mash B whereas you should mash every button including directionals

>replicate the Turbo Tunnel skip which is many times harder to pull off than just playing the Turbo Tunnel
There are multiple ways to do that. It's not so hard if done slowly.

>> No.2727320

>>2727041

just off the top of my head -

Turbo Tunnel, to get past the rockets just go to the bottom left of the screen and you'll fly right by them. much easier than his method of dodging them.

Arctic Cavern - Bootsy says to take your time (bad idea). he uses the ice cube to break a barrier instead of the snowman (no big deal, but still not a good beginner strat). the end of the stage where you have to stop the ice cube he claims is "really annoying" when it is one of the easiest sections in the entire stage if you know what you're doing

his strategies for Karnaths Lair are just plain bad overall , he takes hard routes and jumps when there are a bunch easier ways

Intruder Excluder - he doesn't even explain that you can easily get past the air vents by wacking them with the pole or headbutting them

>> No.2727432

>>2727320
I always jump over those guys in the Turbo Tunnel

He apparently doesn't know about the safe spot in the missile section of Volkmire's Inferno, or he just didn't want to use it. And in the last section he hugs the back of the screen which actually makes it much harder to dodge the fire walls

Battletoads is about average by arcade standards. Sure, if you hate arcade-style games where in order to get very far you'll probably have to retry a lot until you get good at not dying, you'll hate Battletoads.

But Battletoads is a very good game in that style, and it has barely any randomization so you can improve very consistent. Plus it has great music, graphics, and variety for a NES game.
