So what are we doing here? Good ones? Bad ones? Is /vr/ so dead that it's just a general? I'm more of a hardware collector than a lot of players so I can contribute a bit, but I should maybe not be lazy in the brief precious totally free time I'm currently enjoying and work on building up my various battlestations.

Anyway, here's a Hori Grip. Fucking great for RPGs and other non-actiony games. Available for all your RPG systems and the PS2 one makes a great presentation controller for Windows

It's probably my favorite third party accessory, that's why I started with it.

Pic related is a Coin Controls Competition Pro joystick. It may look familiar because a lot of fuckers consider it the best for C64 and even VCS, which I don't (see >>2722265) but this one is for the 5200. The 5200 has a dogshit controller that's basically only good for strapping onto a second one to create the original dual analog controller to play Space Dungeon.

You NEED a 3rd party controller to play 5200 right and I prefer the digital CC one. A lot of enthusiasts argue for the Wico analog one but I guess they play different games than I do.

Honestly I've pretty much abandoned my 5200 collecting in favor of the XE series, which I'm kicking myself for skipping over when there used to be several carts in with every huge tub of 25 cent Atari games. No more though.

Here's a picture of a proper Space Dungeon setup. Worth the hassle if you want to be impressed with a 2nd gen game.

I'd like to build an adapter to use dual 5200 controllers on Playstation, or at least on PC for emulators. There's probably a 5200 to USB adapter right? I dunno.

Fuck no. The 5200 has literally the most retarded controller ever. You think Jaguar is ridiculous, but no. It has the same 12-key keypad, but the primary buttons are those little eraser rubber rectangles on the sides you're expected to jam the tip of your thumb or index finger into and they're membrane buttons that get fucked up and require constant maintenance and then on top of that the joysticks themselves are analog, with this bizarre primitive mechanism that actually wears pretty well but has to rely on the fucking rubber boot to center it. The whole thing is always a nightmare to use in one way or another on pretty much every game but Space Dungeon.

See the way the CC controller has two ends on its cable? It's a passthrough. You still use the regular controller for the keypad you it just replaces the shitty joystick and shitty fire buttons.

People used to make homebrew "fourth party" controllers but it seems those days are gone too.

I could go on and on about what a fucking tragedy the 5200 is. 8-bit Atari computer games were easily ported to it and indeed are responsible for its surprisingly large homebrew lineup. Atari COULD have really pushed that on both fronts (more games on 5200, more developers on XE) but for SOME reason the 5200 didn't sell very well.

>Hey, Guys let's produce an official adapter so people can play their VCS games using the shitty 5200 controllers instead of exactly the opposite!

In all reality the 5200 was also too expensive. $270 and that's 1982 dollars which I think is a little over twenty grand adjusted for inflation

I used to wreck people at Tekken with this while smoking and generally not seeming to pay much attention at all. They would get so mad.

Between that and the Grip, I guess I was living a pretty one-handed gaming lifestyle in the 90s.

and can we talk about how fucking stupid both Nintendo and Sega were in the 4th gen to think we wanted wireless light guns? A fucking Menacer full of batteries weighs more than a real 1911 with a full magazine.

Come on /vr/ live! Live!

I had enough time to dig through trash bags from my old apartment and find two RCA breakouts Ys, a RCA to 1/8" headphone Y, an additional 1/8" headphone plug to fix my wife's tape adapter in her car and a Genesis AC adapter that turns out to be perfect to power the "game rocker" I bought at Goodwill for $3 and this is all the further the thread has gone?

Had one I received as a gift. No tactile feedback was weird, but it worked pretty well for a while.

Did wear out way faster than a normal controller, though. Also, a bit awkward to hold vs. the standard SNES controller.

You're welcome Anon. Your mom has good taste. How did she describe it? I won't even make a joke about banging her since it's actually possible if her name is Sarah.

Either way get that bitch a trackball and tell her it's from me.

If you have a Coin Controls joystick and one of these monster trackballs literally the only reason you would ever touch a normal joystick is for Space Dungeon.
