It's 2015 and I'm super late to the party. Is it possible to find S-Video cables for Gamecube/N64/SNES without this horrendous checkerboard effect? How about them RGB Mods?

Yeah, buy the ones that has no yellow composite connector and has separate shielding for each wire instead of them combining into one.

I know some local gamestops will sell a "legacy" cable. It's a multi-console cable that can connect to multi-out NES consoles (snes through gamecube), playstations, original xbox, as well as xbox 360. I've not seen any of the issues people have said they've seen with s-video.
