Extra year of development. Creative decisions that occurred while cramming and reworking hundreds of megabytes onto an 8MB cartridge. (Vigilante 8 Second Offense had the luxury of a 12MB catridge. Meanwhile publishers such as Acclaim were tossing 32MB cartridges at their high-profile games. Activision were kinda cheapskatish.)

I'm glad that you grew up with a N64, but saying that is just plain delusion.

Sheeit, didn't even know the PS1 and N64 versions had entirely different soundtracks. About the only track that sticks in my mind from the PS1 version was the fucking pimp-ass title music.

What did you guys think of 2nd Offense?

>> No.2722123

Is there any reason to run the N64 version over the PS1 version? I played second offense in emulator a ton as a chillin' but it was pretty broke.

I imagine the ps1 version actually works.

Load times and a different soundtrack. PSX version has great 70s style and disco music, whereas N64 version's tunes were more game-y and IMO slightly more fitting for the gameplay even if the PSX OST was more fitting to the theme of the game

N64 also has an extra level.

Mainly John Torque and the 4x4 electric guy because from what I remember they were good all rounders and their specials were more immediately useful.

This was an awesome game and better than the sum of its parts. At first I was a little disappointed that I finished the campaign so quickly but I must have spent months on deathmatches esp area 51 filled with school busses and launching those rockets/baiting them onto the runway! Imho this is better than Twisted Metal. I just preferred the handling of the cars and the weird physics. There isn't much between this and the sequel. I think it introduced upgradeability on cars and hover powerup, which made combat more awkward.

Very interesting extras and glitches:

a) the ability to play the original levels in the sequel with a disc swap
b) Disc swap for your own music tracks
c) out of bounds glitch where you can get trapped outside of scenery.

Never played the N64 version.

i like that v8 2 for the dreamcast has levels from both games but the controls are awkward.

Cant get more 70s than a bad robot bitch with a fly ride and a death ray off a flying saucer

I loved this game so much. I remember I would use the firenolimits cheat and spam homing rockets and the game would freeze. I still remember the combinations to input for special weapon uses.
up-up-up-z with homing rockets was so fun in low gravity. You could do a wheelie, then rocket boost yourself through the air
And that one with the mortar left a big crater in the middle of everything. Loved watching cars get stuck in it.

Only 2nd Offense is on DC, but it's the best version for sure. Best graphics and framerate, 4 player like N64, cutscenes like PS1, and all the levels from the first game are unlockable if you enter the code "oldlevels". You can unlock them on PS1 as well, but you need a copy of the original game to do it.

This guy, favourite character. Although I beat everyone's stories many, many times.

The bus was annoying as hell to drive and kill though.
