vr

is there a way to prove that i got the real Mr. Gimmick. Sure I can open the cartridge to check for the sunsoft sound chip.

But im still worried that it is a repro, made from a Return of the Joker cartridge. ( As i know it also use the same soundchip )

So is there even a way ?

Also what was the highest price you spent for a game. 500EUR for me...

you cant ?

Gues thats the problem, i just want to know if i got a real copy of gimmick. Thats why i dont realy like repros..

I mean its ok if people do repros, BUT they should at least write on the cartridge REPRO or fanmade.

Also i get the game in 2 days, i will check if its real, if not i send it back. So i have to know if there is a way... but looks like there is no way.

finaly, thank you !!

Well as i googled, the 5B Chipset is the one with the expansion audio. But why is there a FME7 on this Mr. Gimmick >>2709181
Its so confusing

That's the Scandinavian NES version so it got the regular FME-7. The Famicom version would be labeled SUNSOFT 5B. Or, so I read.

>The FME-7 is a memory mapping circuit developed by Sunsoft for use in NES and Famicom cartridges. It allows the program ROM to be switched in 8KB banks and the character ROM to be switched in 1KB banks. It also contains hardware allowing the cartridge to generate IRQ signals after a specified number of CPU clock cycles, thus enabling split-screen effects with minimal use of processing power. A special version of this MMC, labeled as "SUNSOFT 5B" rather than "FME-7", contains a version of the widely used Yamaha YM2149. This sound generation hardware is used on only one Famicom title: Gimmick!.

Here's a picture of a Famicom Gimmick PCB. It has the Sunsoft 5B chip. Also, you can't really tell from the pic but the PCB is labeled "FC-GMK" in the upper right corner. A Batman PCB would be labeled "BAT-E301".

If I spent 500 bongbucks on a cartridge I'd want to make sure and fucking certain that it wasn't a repro too

If you're ponying up 500 bucks for a single cart and you havent bothered googling looking what the real boards looked like, and directly compared to the board you were buying then I have zero fucking sympathy to you.

I get that NES isn't the same as something like Neo-Geo in terms of bootlegs. But any of the "rare" and highly valued games will absolutely have legit and reproduction/bootleg board scans available online.

Highest value I spent on a single game was 180 USD for Tron Bonne, and 210 CAD for Windjammers on .MVS.

The most I ever spent at one time outside of buy a console was $80 for a Saturn, Guardian Heroes and Golden Axe: The Duel. Sold the extra Saturn to a /vr/ guy for $30 or something back when we had BST threads. I got a pretty good deal, I think.

I bid $200 on Panzer Dragoon Saga once but got outbid

open it and post pics, dumbass.

it's pretty fucking obvious. you can tell because the ROMs will be resoldered with fresh solder and it'll use EPROMs and not PROM/MaskROM.

Also, a real Gimmick cart uses the Sunsoft 5B, NOT a FME-7. This is a common misconception and it is very fucking obvious because it's MASKED ON THE CHIP.

PAL and Conversions use FME-7
JP Gimmick uses a 5B
There are very very few donor 5B boards and you can still tell its a conversion from the ROMs on the board

http://bootgod.dyndns.org:7777/profile.php?id=2695

Post pics if you want but you should be able to tell just from the link above.

Always ask for pics with timestamp before you buy high-value carts dude.

kek, you're such a faggot for spending $180. It's even funnier because you have no idea how much of a faggot you are. You'll figure it out in the next ten years if you don't die of AIDS.

I recently played this game and had a blast. it really is a masterpiece.

fun facts: the spider on the castle in level 7 triggers a copy protection check. if your game isn't legit, it crashes the game with the text: black hole. of course you had to play all the way through and get all the secret items to find this out.

gimmick uses the PCM channel heavily, many songs have their bassline in the PCM.

Not without modding the NES. Google "NES expanded audio mod" or some such. And the PAL version of Gimmick doesn't do expanded audio at all since it lacks the 5B chip. They re-worked the music so it would sound okay (but different) without the extra sound channels.

you can get full audio IF you do the resistor mod AND you have the 5B version. just google nes resistor mod, it's extremely simple to do.

the repros made from the prototype ROM are NOT full audio, and the PAL version is also NOT full audio (uses the FME-7).

>>2711252
the PAL version is probably more rare than the Japanese version, but not very useful if you actually want to play the game
