To the people who play game boy on emulators, do you play your games in the original way it was intended, or do you make your game boy games colorized? If so, what are the best colors to use?

I have a custom color palette which I play. shades of yellow tbh. because that's what looks best to me. black and white is a no go. I only use colour when the game has a special palette in super Gameboy like donkey Kong and it switches automatically. i play them as super Gameboy emulator on my psp.

idk if it has a special colour palette like donkey Kong and pokemon? does it? if yes go for it. I for example do it like this: I play wario land 3 in grey scale with my yellow palette. and at some point later I will play the game boy colour remake. but that is just me. but pokemon blue I play with the colour palette because it has it integrated.

DX. The color does nothing but add to the game. There is an extra dungeon too. The red and blue tunics can make the game easier than the original so you can skip those if you want.

I love the greyscale. Sometimes I use the colorized sprites from the GBA SP, which makes the DKL series way more enjoyable. If a game has a good SGB palette I'll use that. But never green or shit like that.

Well, they did make the DX series, which was very, very short lived. I wish they would continue it and finally give KDL, SML and Metroid 2 some color.

Getting a CRT working with your emulators is probably far to complicated for you. Stick to the LCD. Just make sure you tell everyone it's superior. Because, you know, you won't enjoy playing the games unless you do.

yes hunty and its called masterboy. it's very good. you can make your own colour palettes (you have to use notepad++ for that and edit the ini files). you can choose between gameboy, gameboy color, gameboy advance and super gameboy mode. for advance i use a different emulator but for gb/gbc games this is the best emulator for psp. it even has a special custom colour palette for super mario land 2 much like this >>2709785 . you can adjust gamma and even load other game 8bit music files into the music player. i advise to use the smoothing filter, which looks best on psp, without there is a lot of aliasing, smoothing looks much more like the original. if anyone needs the shades of yellow pallette i can post the code to add to the ini. you can also add any colour palette from bgb or ganbatte.

I'm willing to bet that some things ended up as they did because of TVs being as they were, not necessarily that creators knew those caveats of TVs. Like, if your art guy looks at something and says "that looks better with this technique", it's not like he was also looking at a clear-cut LCD picture of what was actually there, you know?

But it doesn't show the boarders, can't play the SNES game in Space Invaders and the 16-bit music/SFX that are available in some games don't work. But as far as I know no emulator can access those, so it's not Masterboy's fault.

why the fuck would you want borders on a handheld, as if the screen isnt small enough.
its about the handheld experience. i would feel ugly playing gameboy games on a big screen with ganbatte or bgb. and if i ever would have to, i would choose ganbatte and this also doesnt have the borders, but it is the better emulator.
