Not him, but it's true, NES stopped being one of the popular systems now that people that grew up with it are too old to be discussing on the internet, most people in this site grew up with PS1, N64, maybe SNES or Genesis.

Sadly, NES and 3rd gen in general is going the same way 2nd gen did... people just forgetting about them outside of "culture pop icons" like Super Mario or Pac-Man.

I've got a Saturn back in the 90s. I had all 3 big 5th gen consoles so I always laugh at kids arguing over which one was better, I was playing all 3.

Although I played more PS1 than Saturn simply because my PS1 had a modchip, and my Saturn could only play US games. Only this year I finally did the pseudosaturn thing and now I'm enjoying all these RAREZ expensive games, for basically free (just the cost of a CD-R)

sure ps1 has a lot of games, but people only remember the same 20 or 30 ones always: MGS, FF, Spyro, Crash.

Not too different with N64 and people only remembering SM64, OOT, Banjo, Perfect Dark, etc.

I like both systems a lot, but people rarely come out of their comfort zone. The max you'll see is maybe some people that talk about Treasure games on N64, and some non-FF JRPGs on PS1, but other than that, it's the same stuff always.

Precisely. Everything depends on taste. I don't think the number of quality titles on PS1 is as big as people tend to believe, the fact they always discuss about the same ones always is proof of that. Games like Syphon Filter are B-rank games, comparable to stuff like Mr Bones on Saturn or Tonic Trouble on N64.
The truly must own titles on each console are always no more than 20 or 30 games, thereabouts. The rest all depends on subjective taste, some people will think 3D platformers are better, some others will think visual novels are better, others will care more about 2D fighting games, and so on.

don't bother, me or other anon with different taste will be able to wrtie off a lot of the games you consider "quality" as not worth it. For instance, if someone doesn't care about JRPGs (especially PS1-era JRPGs which had a huge amount of loading screens and cringe-worthy CGI cutscenes for today's standards), your list will probably br shrinked in an instant, by that person's standards of quality.

As I said, it's pointless to discuss this. This isn't about PS1 or N64 being shit, this is about Sturgeon's law, it applies to video games as well. No matter how big the library of a console is, most of it will be crap.

It's got a decent library, at least with an Action Replay cart. Even its US library is amazing if you liked Sega's Model 2-era arcade games (which are actually fantastic) and almost nothing else. It's a nice system, and there really isn't any reason to play it for hipster cred.

biggest issue is that a lot of the ports have better versions now, but I still like the Saturn versions of many games still
I'll still pop in VF2 on Saturn because it's impressive as fuck and I'll play VO on Saturn instead of the Sega Ages version because it actually seems a bit different mechanically. Galactic Attack is brilliant on Saturn (and MAME still has a couple fuck-ups, such as missing/invisible lasers in some places). Same with Pu-Li-Ru-La (I don't think it has a better version actually).

and then its strictly original games like Bulk Slash are fucking amazing
Keio 2 is pretty fun (was pretty glad I nabbed it for so cheap a couple years ago).
Panzer Dragoon is a thing of beauty (counting it because the Sega Ages version is fucked up, the water is screwy there and doesn't have the super impressive effect it did on the Saturn, in the enhanced mode the fucking dragon's animation looks stilted as fuck, the colors look wrong all around), Zwei is even better. I still haven't played Saga (would need to emulate, which is fine, SSF is fast if not ideal).

It's a great console if you're into certain genres like shmups, fighters and other arcadey games, RPGs, and if you're willing to play imports. I'd say it actually has more games worth playing than the Nintendo 64 even if you don't have individual, revolutionary classic titles like OoT and SM64 that just make the console, and most of the games worth playing are just ports and/or 2D and less expansive in scope.

One of the great things about the system is that it also had the best arcade ports, which used to be a big deal. Nowadays you can get most of those games on MAME or other systems and emulators, but there are quite a few games that still have their best version on Saturn.

Overall a great console that's still worth owning and celebrating, not mocked by internet memers. The only thing that should be mocked is its weird architecture since it was thrown together in such a fucked up way that it had like 8 processors and they used the sound chip to render graphics sometimes (I guess it's better than the N64 which didn't have a sound chip at all though).

I don't know.... this thread made me rethink a lot about my life.

Seeing that one guy desperately posting his collection's pictures, trying to validate his life with it... it made me feel bad about being a collector too.

I think it might be time to sell off my collection too. I don't really want to be like him.

The only problem is that I'm a huge nostalgiafag and most of my consoles/games were actually acquired in my childhood/early teens, and I have a hard time parting with that sort of stuff. I still own my childhood toys and books (all stored in boxes, though).

I feel like I need to close a chapter in my life and start another, maybe. I still like video games, but I really don't need to store that much plastic anymore. To be honest I feel more guilt rather than satisfaction when I look at my collection.
