To be honest I never saw any point in this. The game works perfectly on modern systems except for the map. You can fix the map by using a glide wrapper. The graphics are fine as it is. The only real advantage to this port would be unlocking the fps limit and scaling to ridiculously high resolutions.

it was kind of a pain in the ass to get Turok 2 working at 1080p with fucking hex editing. personally I wouldn't mind some better textures. one negative thing about the old turok games is that it was easy to get confused in the labyrinth-like maps because of all the samey, muddy textures everywhere. some more variation and distinction in the map textures would have done wonders.

what i'm worried about is how night dive will alter the core gameplay mechanics and animations. how fluidly the creature animations were was nothing short of amazing for 1998.

I also had good memories of it but then i mostly watched my brothers play it and i was some impressionable shitty kid. -the map design is atrocious, way worse than other games from the same time
-story gets uninteresting after a few minutes - the good hook from the beginning is never properly explored
-main character has no charisma nor personality (a flaw that most games of the time shared so it's not a jab only to Turok)
-enemy AI is unbelievable bad and the enemy designs themselves stop working after the whole "woo dinosaurs" novelty wears off
-the tribal shit is horrible. just like that ridiculous indian themed level from Outlaws, it's uninteresting and easily the worst part of the game. way more predominant in Turok though
-after a rather succesful follow-up the other sequels ignored all the few good aspects from the series and filled it with Generic and even more Generic.

I wholeheartedly disagree. They definitely have flaws but there are certain things about Turok, mainly 2, that still hold up well to this day.

The enemy animations, the gunplay, the gore, all still very satisfying. Yes, the games suffer in terms of map textures and lack of detail as >>2704710 said. But while the maps and environment suffered from graphical limitations, they were also massive and non-linear, something sorely missing in modern FPS.

Turok 2 is a prime example of a game that was too ambitious for its time. A modern remake that took elements of what it did right and fixed what it didn't would be one of the best FPS games ever made.

>AI
How so? I admit, in 1 you can basically kill everyone by running around with a knife alone(I wish there were knife in 2 instead of that talon glove), but that using mouse & keyb.
I cant imagine doing the same with keyb alone or the controller.
In 2 enemies are good. They are varied, scale well with the difficulty and animations are nice.
Goading dinos into fighting each other to the death is cherry on the top.
I wish there were MORE dino enemies in 2.
A giant T-rex or pterodactyl or some shit.
Less humanlike, more dino.

-Keyhunting and Lair of the blind ones are probably your reasons to hate the level design, and maybe the fog.
-Read the comics if you want the story, they predate the game by 40 years (Yes, Turok was a thing since the 50's)
-Not a flaw, first person games in that era were meant to make the player (YOU) to self insert in the game. Not everyone should be like Duke Nukem or any other build engine game.
-Turok 1 is simple when it comes to AI, its kinda like Doom where all enemies just charge to you or shoot you if they have a gun, some enemies got new attacks in later levels. Turok 2 on the other hand, had a slightly advanced AI, Dinozoids for example, they move in zig-zag sometimes unlike in Turok 1 where enemies just move in a straight line. Also, the enemy designs are kinda unique (and still are) because you don't see cyborg dinosaurs in modern vidya. Then again, the dinosaurs fad died off with the disaster that was Jurrasic Park 3.
-Tribal shit wasn't exactly a problem, but come on, comparing probably Level 3 - The Ancient city to anything from Outlaws is just silly.
-If you're talking about Turok 3 then yeah, Turok 3 dropped the ball and the soap at the same time. Turok Evolution was pretty cool though, but not as good as Turok 1 and 2. Rage Wars doesn't count because this is a multiplayer oriented game.

Turok is not for everyone i guess...

I had serious problems with 2 on PC. It crashed when I progressed too much at a time, crashed after saving a game, and crashed when deleting a save file (since you can't overwrite saves, it basically stopped my progress once I hit the limit). I also found an "HD patch" that was thrown together by some 13 year old, which tossed beer cans, weed leaves and the like all over everything. it was kind of funny in a really stupid way

Something else they could do would be fix the hidden co-op mode in Turok 2. It was so close to being functional, if they had just fixed the teleporters it would have worked. Of course back then it destroyed performance, but nowadays any computer could handle it.
