I was never in the "OMG HE 3D PRINTED IT" crowd, more like in the "...why can't he just actually get it to someone who can simply open up the thing, and test what's on the cart?". I understand this is supposed to be very rare so all must be done with the utmost care, but this isn't a skeleton from 10m years, it's just a console from 20+ years. It's okay, anyone with basic electronic knowledge could open it up, I'm not even saying he should turn it on, simply open the damn thing and take pictures of the inside. Also the cart ROM could be easily dumped, just like any other regular Super Famicom cart.

Now he's going to travel to the other side of the world with it? Keeps getting shadier and shadier.

I think it is important to keep in mind that the finder is a guy in his mid-20s who doesn't appear to have a very strong personal interest in older videogames. To a lot of people on here, it is no big deal to open up a game console (or other piece of electronics) and look it over, mod it, or repair it. For all we know he has never done anything like that before. Not everyone feels comfortable around technology beyond its basic, creator-intended use. Not to mention the fact that he probably understands its value and would hate to blow a ticket to an easy few grand just because he wanted to test it. In fact, it would almost assuredly sell for more completely untested than it would fried.

I'd also not be surprised if a significant portion of his interest in this stems from the attention it seems to be bringing him. I guess try to think of it from the point of view of someone who found a mysterious relic that could potentially bring him easy cash rather than as someone who found something in which he has a strong personal interest to examine, use, and appreciate for just what it is. I could be wrong, though, but since the game he touted as being one of his faves was UT for DC, I doubt he still has huge interest in stuff prior to that.

I think the whole thing is a fake. Right from the story of the unit. Being yellow doesn't prove or disprove anything, but it prevents people from bringing the color up as a point of suspicion.
