FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCK!!!!

Why can't I do a fucking walljump?! Am I retarded or something? How gud do I need to git before I'm gud enough to do a fucking walljump and get whatever the fuck is at the top of this fucking shaft?!

>> No.2704214

>>2704192
Just slow down and take your time.

In order to do a walljump, you need to do a rolling (directional) jump toward a wall, press the d-pad away from the wall, and then press jump. When you push the d-pad away from the wall, you'll see Samus grab the wall for a moment; that's your cue to jump. A lot of people mess this up because they try to jump too early.

>> No.2704215

Press the direction you're walljumping slightly before the jump button. Then git gud.

Thanks, but I'm giving up for now. I tried slowing my emulator down to 1/10 speed, and I still never saw the animation where she grabs the wall. Maybe tomorrow I'll git gud but for tonight I'm pussying out.

Wall jumping in Super Metroid is kind of weird but once you get used to it it's easy.

Another thing that can mess you up is accidentally hitting up or down during your jump. That cancels your rolling, and prevents you from pulling off a wall jump. If it becomes a serious problem, you could disable / reassign the up / down buttons while you're trying to wall jump.

you can only do a walljump when:

>you are in the air
>you are near a wall
>you are falling downwards rather than moving upwards
>you are pressing the directional button away from the wall
>you are not too far from the wall yet
>you press the jump button

>> No.2704392

>>2704384
>you are falling downwards rather than moving upwards

Nope, you can wall jump while you're still moving upward.

Also, you need to be spinning. You can't wall jump from a normal jump.

I found it easier to learn walljumping on the keyboard, but for general execution, I find gamepad to be superior.

>>2704384
>you are falling downwards rather than moving upwards
Incorrect as >>2704392 says. If you watch a speedrun, you'll see plenty of walljumps executed while Samus is still moving upwards.

The whole area is training for wall jump, which from what I recall you never need to do unless you want do certain things out of order. I always game the shit of it though, wall jumping while hard to master, is fun as fuck.

I'm not the best at wall jumping.

I've never used software for recording on my phone.

Not great video, and I'm not great at editing videos. Deal with it.

Maybe thinking about it like this might help.

All that is required for the game to let you wall jump is that you are doing a somersault and moving away from a close by wall. This enables the "grab" state from which Samus can wall jump if jump is pressed.

When somersaulting, the game checks the direction Samus is moving in for walls to stop her movement, but it also checks the opposite direction. If the opposite direction "hits" a wall, then Samus transitions to the grab state.

To practice, somersault into a tall wall such that Samus is spinning but she has no horizontal motion because she was stopped by the wall. Then press the direction away from the wall, and almost immediately after the jump button. You should wall jump.

It becomes second nature once you get the hang of it.

>> No.2708613

Best advice I can give, besides all the advice already given:

SM's wall jump is very methodical. It's much, much, MUCH slower paced than it has any need to be. Seriously.

It's "toward...away, and jump"
Most people make the mistake of thinking the timing is faster, closer to "towardjumpandaway" and it's not.

Once you get better at it, you can do it faster, but it is very methodical like I said. It's a three count, with each button press very distinct, and actually having a huge window from one to the other, rather than it being very fast paced, rapid two count.

Seriously, just slow down and count 1 to the wall, 2 away, 3 jump. It's waltz rhythm. Literally.

One of the biggest things to get down with it is not hitting diagonals while switching sides. imho it's best to physically lift your thumb off the pad and swap sides when doing it rather than attempting to roll the thumb to the other side - which has a higher percentage of fucking up even if it's pretty fucking close.

Is it possible to get out of Maridia's water section, in this situation? I can't seem to find a way out. I can't open the super missile gate from this side, and I can't cross the falling sand at the other end of the hallway.

Um, I think that room has a failsafe. In that you can sink down into the sand into the rooms below.
You're "supposed" to have the Gravity suit by the time you work your way back down into there. But I'm pretty sure they put the false floors there specifically for when you get there without it.

Thanks for this. I found the hole in the floor under that platform.

I thought that since I was able to get into that area from the bottom (via the room with the glass passageway that you blow up), I might be able to work my way through to whatever's on the other end, but it didn't quite turn out that way.
