Dumb retro game rumors thread?

We all remember the fake Pokemon shit and Luigi supposedly being in Mario 64, but there were plenty more. Did you believe the rumors? Were you that asshole who spread it anyway?

And then there were all the webpages where they'd would tell you to do ridiculous shit. Didn't help that facts were often mixed with fiction. For example, Missingno and Glitch City actually being feasible to pull off while everything else was pulled out of some kid's ass.

Not really true.

Undertale, while not retro, just recently came out and had thread after thread maxing themselves out of people discovering new shit and uncovering new mysteries within the games nooks and crannies.

One of the repeating themes in those threads was that it was a game that gave everyone that same enjoyment and wonder they recieved from games as a kid. It has that much attention to detail.

Games like that are certainly less common now, but they're not gone forever.

A random bunch of internet people and me made a forum to search for him, create theories, try out stuff and more stuff. I knew at somepoint that he isn't in SM64DS but the challenges were quite entertaining. Found so many bugs, most of them minor but some were bigger or just funny. I'm still concerned that he was planned to be in the game but got dropped somewhere in developement. There's some stuff that leads to this like the 4th door or the rabbit in the instruction booklet which isn't present in the game with the same colors.

I remember two of them. One was the General Leo thing. People said you could bring him back by doing some outrageous shit. I was stoked, but then when I saw the shit you would have to do and immediately found out and declared it was bullshit.

The other one I fell more for. It was for Xenogears, and I bought that you had to do some shit with that dress that the weird looking kid gives you during the tournament, some dumb quest that will allow you to get Ramsus in your party. This one was more feasible, because he was supposed to be the last party member. There even is the last spot reserved for him, but it seems that Square ran out of budget(which explains the second cd). I bought that one hook, line and sinker. It was sad when I found out it was a hoax, because Ramsus was pretty cool.

And the last one I think was more minor, about how to save a party member in Tales of Destiny, you know the one. Apparently it had something to do with if you unequip his sword and do some stupid shit. Of course it was a hoax.

There were three ways to get Mew in R/G/B/Y
>Go to the pkmn center in japan.
>Use the Trainer-Fly glitch on certain Youngster.
>Randomly through MissingNo.

Best was the MissingNo way because if Mew showed up you could keep going up and down on the shore and keep catching more Mews. But the pokemon that showed through this glitch were almost entirely random and catching them could corrupt the save file.

Playing R/B/Y on Pokemon Stadium fixed some of these problems, since you could play in turbo and whatever cheat pokemon you caught and sent to Prof. Oak's lab in Staduim was now safe. I used MissingNo and turbo to get Lv. 1 legendaries, train them to Lv. 100 and completely rule my school's pokemon scene because my legendaries and Snorlax "somehow" had much better stats than everyone elses.

>my legendaries and Snorlax "somehow" had much better stats than everyone elses.
Pokemon in the first gen can still increase their stats after hitting Lvl 100. There's a pseudo experience counter that still ticks off after the level cap, and it recalculates your pokemon's stats after you dump it in the PC and take it out again. Granted, "leveling" up this way still takes a while, and you can't watch your progress, but it happens. Try writing down a pokemon's stats and test it out for yourselves, anons.

Lv. 1 Mew
>Do the Trainer-Fly glitch.
>Escape from Mew
>Do the Old Man glitch.
>Lv-1-3 Mew will appear on Cinnabar's shore.
Lv. 1 Birds
>Clear the bird's location of trainers and items.
>Stock on repels
>Fight a Lv. 1 pkmn near Viridian, then activate repel and fly to the bird's location.
>Reach the bird and walk around it until repel wears off.

Actually, the reason we see less hidden stuff in games these days is due to the Hot Coffee controversy. I was watching a YouTube series on the making of Ratchet And Clank 3, and the developers said that after Hot Coffee, you had to disclose all the secrets you put into games to avoid any potential legal action/costly recalls.

There's a secondary reason. Remember when Microsoft products had cool Easter eggs, like flight simulators and a Doomlike in Excel? Company policy changes during development of Windows 2000, forbidding any Easter eggs. Of course, where Microsoft leads, the world follows, so the tech community ditched Easter eggs en-masse in an attempt to seem professional.

Someone mentioned that their big brother killed themselves a week after it came out in a Silent Hill thread and it blew up from there. It turns out that if you look at the suicide statistics for Europe and America, they explode every time Silent Hill is released or rereleased. Some people think the same thing happened in Japan, but the statistics don't really support that.

My favorite theory was that SIlent Hill was an experimental Japanese info-weapon to cleanse the world of westerners, because one of the devs was involved in some far-right japanese nationalist group.

Speaking of the whole hot coffee fiasco, anyone else remember Bethesda made nude textures found in Oblvion or am I losing my mind? I looked around on google and all that before but could only find nude mods and shit.

Does anyone remember that rumor about Toad being in SSBM?

>> No.2705115

>>2705098
No. I don't remember anything past 2000.

I come here so as not to be reminded of my terrible condition.

>> No.2705161

I made up some of those rumors back in the day.

I kept saying that to unlock Stop n Swap in Banjo Kazooie you had to swap cartridges with Donkey Kong 64 at a certain time. People believed me and tried to do the trick.

My rumor was really believable, because I owned both games and picked a time where it seemed plausible to swap both cartridges. I remember one topic was locked by a moderator and the moderator told everyone that I was full of shit lol.

In the remakes, there's a Lava Cookie - an item not normally found in Kanto - directly to the south of the truck. So there was a secret below the truck.

>> No.2705937

They kept the truck because they know about those rumors. Nothing mysterious about that. It's a nod to the past.

>Why was the truck there at all?
I wonder, could it be unintentional?

The border of the truck doesn't match the tiles of the ground underneath the truck, which makes intentional placement seem odd (you'd have thought they'd have tidied it up if it was intentional)
