Which one of these games should I 1cc next?

>Last Resort
>Xexex
>Gradius II
>Thunder Force IV

I played them all a bit already and to me they all seem to have similar difficulty.

Just played my first run of JS Resurrection (Normal)...the lives come quick, but you still have to learn proper shield usage or else the fast bullets get ya. Game's fun so far, I've been missing out.

I just beat my first Shmup ever, R-Type for Turbograf on the Wii Virtual Console (on a crt), took me weeks to be able to beat it in one sitting.

I dont know where to go from here.
What Shmup do I play next?
Is Axelay a good idea? Musha?

Lords of Thunder also on VC.

Salamander is my all time favorite. Wild ride from start to finish. It's kinda short, but that's alright.

Hi, I'm playing Raiden IV, can somebody briefly explain what the hell is going on in very simple words? Like all this stuff I'm picking up, I don't know what it does. Thanks in advance.

Red = wide shot
purple = don't
blue = laser
H = homing missiles
M = normal missiles
B = bomb

Everything else is just for points so you can safely ignore them.

>> No.2690391

>>2690264
Stick with Vulcan (red), it does the most power when point blanking and also makes stages easier due to its spread. Also, if you don't hold down fire for a few seconds, your missiles charge and get more powerful.

Your daily reminder that people have become this dumb and can't figure out absolutely basic things without being spoonfed. No wonder the genre is dying and 99% can't grasp scoring when they are vegetable brained.

>> No.2693271

Hi /vr/ I dont generally post here
I googled best shmups and found a thread in the shmups.system forum, it seems like most of the best shmups are games with Japanese names I dont recognize from the late 90s or non retro era, made by Treasure or Cave.
Isnt it a bit unusual? It felt weird to see that R Type was the only "old" shmup in a top 25 list.
I am 31 and I am pretty sure shmups where much more popular when I was a kid than around the year 2000, at least in the west.
I guess they continued being popular in Japan, that is why the genre peaked after the PS1/Saturn generation.

Are non bullet hell shmups still being made?

What a load of bollocks you clueless arsehole. The game is deep as fuck with strats and secrets to get decent scores going along with a god tier ost and awesome cinematics.

>Are non bullet hell shmups still being made?
Satazius, Hydorah, Jets 'n Guns, Sine Mora, Astebreed, Last Hope, Redux, Sturmwind
Prolly more.
Also, there are a lot of horizontal style shooters on PS2.

Just some observations after playing the shit out of some R-Type games over the weekend

>R-Type 1
Beautiful game. Perfection. Not hard at all, if you know a couple tricks beforehand.

>R-Type 3
The slowdowns really bother me...

>R-Type Leo
First 2-3 stages are nice, but the game gets monotonous.

How is R-Type 2?

>R-Type 1
too hard I keep dying

is it possible to play R-Type 1 on a Nintendo DS or is the emulation not there yet

How important is the rank in Batrider? Is hoarding bombs and constantly grabbing power-ups harmful like in Battle Garegga?

>> No.2694207

>>2693981
>How important is the rank in Batrider?
Very, it's way more strategy intensive than garegga with suicides and character orders all needing to be planned out to activate secret bosses and control rank, it also has more milking and bomb tricks.

FIrst cab I got in a group buy that was a disaster, paid like $550 + shipping + another $500 or so restoring it to be perfect. Second cab I got from a friend in another state for $350 without a control panel and a wonky monitor. Didn't care about that part since I had a spare NOS Nanao MS9 and multiple control panels. Basically look to spend around $1000 plus to get a good working cab with shipping
