I want to play Metroid but when I try popping in the cart the start screen is scrambled, no matter how many times I try adjusting it.

How can I clean the cart/NES without damaging it, without rubbing alcohol?

Blow in it, honestly.

Eraser on the contacts.

But the best bet is rubbing alcohol and Q-tip. If you're serious about maintaining your games its not that expensive and it will last a long time.

Go ahead and use isopropyl alcohol and just scrape it with q-tip. Its the fastest way that works. Blowing on it spreads germs and makes junk build on the contacts.

Is there no alternative to alcohol? I don't have any in the house.

It's like a dollar but if you're some kind of shit in you could use vinegar, lemon juice, Brasso, rubbing compound or many other options.

Remove the anti-piracy chip.
