Found it craigslist a couple years back. No idea about any revision. Only mod I know of is the guy I picked it up added a Rom so the scores doesn't erase when you shut it off. Yeah Outrun is easily one of my favorite driving games as is and its even better with an actual wheel and shifter.

Yeah, that's one of the really useful mods.
There are a bunch of bug fixes (graphical glitches, sound glitches), some improvements (free play mode, music selection, hiscore entry) and the adjusted timing (in my understanding only visual, no impact on scoring) available as well.

This was something I realized recently. I play with an analog stick, and it works reasonably well. Usually you don't "need" a wheel for older games, especially ones that don't try to be realistic. Wheels have an underlying "for simulations" aspect. However, Outrun greatly profits from using a wheel, and while the stick works, I'm well aware of its limits. For such simple physics, such a simple engine, it's actually quite sensitive.
I still can't bring myself to whip out expensive or custom hardware, so for the time being, a simple gamepad and a TV will have to suffice, even if I may look like a heretic to some purists.

Regardless, I apologize for bringing the whole thread off-track a bit, but thanks for responding about your machine.

Yeah it's dumb as hell they say it's cause it entices kids to smoke which is total bullshit. The brand I smoke isn't really light though it's quiet strong and the reason I don't like other cigs is cause they aren't as strong. I don't mean flavor or chemicals I mean nicotine content. Menthol also causes your body to metabolize nicotine slower making most menthol smokers actually smoke less cigarettes. I just like to have one after an intense match of counter strike and need to chill out after calm myself down so I can aim again haha. I have a really nice e-cigarette I never touch the thing I should try menthol fluid for it though. It feels kind of like a novelty though even though mine is pretty high end. holy fuck i kind of blogposted there
